IMO easiest (realistic) path to the B1G Championship is to....

-get in the 11/14 game and win
-beat #6 IU
-beat #3 OSU
-beat the team that upsets Purdue (maybe PSU?)

And if we somehow get there, hopefully play anybody besides MSU. I'm still dreaming.;)

Know it won't matter much to the critics. But would so love to beat both Purdue & finish off with a road win at Rutgers. Maybe telling the players they will get another day off before the B1G tournament would be motivation enough?

Least resistance for sure. A team we beat, a team we should have beat. And dream away......

Underwood: Short night. Had to flush that one pretty quickly and move on. A lot of positives in the first half last night. We're getting better.

Underwood: That is every bit of a Final Four team and national championship team. And they've gotten better.

Underwood: I thought we fought... My worst nightmare happened. They started their seniors & Leron picked up a foul against them

Underwood: One of the most frustrating things was our missed layups. Positive part is that we got 23 of them. Downside is we missed 17.

Underwood: 2nd half got away from us mainly because of our bad offense.

Underwood: We'll see a different challenge with Purdue. Think they're the nation's top three-point shooting team by percentage. Very efficient. Haas is massive.

Underwood: The more I dove into the film, Carsen Edwards is really good. Scores it with ease. Mathias is one of the elite catch-and-shoot guys in this league.

Underwood: I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Michigan State seniors come off the floor last night. Hair stood up on the back of my neck. That's what it's about. The dedication, tears running down your cheek & coach is the same way.. That's why I coach the way I coach.

Underwood: Trent's decision making has been off the chart. I've been so proud of his growth there. Probably should have had more assists if we made layups.

Underwood: Trying to get Greg to have confidence in his post game. He doesn't see that size in practice. So it's different in the game. It's a growing process.

Underwood: I thought Mark Smith was really good in the 1st half. He was aggressive. For the most part, he was really good defensively in the 1st half.

Kipper Nichols is the team's leading FT shooter at 85.5%, which places him at #6 all time Illini for a season. Just behind Heldman (86.0%).

Trent Frazier has the #5 all time Freshman scoring average at 12.3PPG. He could catch Efrem Winters, who is #4 @ 12.4 ppg.

I’m extremely interested to see how haas guards the high post in this game. Specifically if Finke is back and we can put a shooter there.

Yep, Haas moves in slow-mo. Have to take advantage of that.

And defensively, I would rather play Haas straight up as much as possible. We have a chance if we can keep trading 2's, plus Haas throws up bricks some games. I feel like some times teams just assume they have to double Haas and that plays right into Purdue's hands. If their shooters get open 3's and get in a rhythm, they're unbeatable.

This stretch of quick turnarounds is going to be tough on us. Horrible scheduling for the situation we are in, but it is what it is. I think we have a chance, but probably less than 30%. Hope the guys give them a run.

 Did you just refer to Finke as a "shooter"?

Not sure we can do that anymore! :)

Yes, but the season's been something of a nightmare, in that most of us figured Underwood would change the culture, magically find a way to win without a BIG front-court, and coach our freshman into veteran's by the end of the non-conference, or deep into the season at worst.

I admit I was thinking 9-9 during the offseason

We're not a dangerous team, so I have no illusions about the BIG tourney, however, I very much want their season to keep going, so I'm really hoping they keep improving, and can make the most of it.

My confidence in Underwood has not been shaken. I think he's tearing up a broken foundation and rebuilding. It just takes more time given how much is changing, and what he came in with.

Purdue has done an awesome job of recruiting. They loaded up on bigs, two 7-2 guys and would have a third dominating big but he is in the NBA. They also recruited shooters.

We on the other hand are small and shoot 3's with a lower percentage. Hopefully these two issues are addressed off season.

2 Top 100 recruits on their roster is not impressive. Heck we have 2 also.:)

I guess you can call it really good talent evaluation. Edwards & Mathias are clearly all conference players and PJ Thompson is a very important player for them.
