Does this actually work? I feel like coaches would working refs on this every game. If that's the case, and the refs cared, they would be calling it.

Edey has been protected and coddled for the past two seasons. Why would a student section chant make some of the worst refs in college basketball finally care?
I think it’s a really good idea nonetheless for the Krush to count out his seconds in the lane. I don’t think any refs are blatantly noticing/counting and not calling it. They’re probably just not paying attention to that (yes, also bad).

But hard to ignore the student chanting. Would serve to also keep the crowd engaged and maybe even get in Edey’s head.

What could it hurt is the real question?

I was at this Illini game - my first-ever basketball game at Assembly Hall as a freshman in high school. Listen to how loud this crowd gets, starting at Randle's game-trying free throw (1:57:42) and ending with McBride's three to take the lead (1:58:13).

2007 - #3 Wisconsin at Illinois

No disrespect meant, but you know what that team's accolades were?? A 9-7 conference record and a #12 seed in the NCAA Tournament (highest/worst in program history). We then lost in the First Round by blowing a double-digit lead and having our last possession culminate in our PF (Brian Randle) shooting a three for the win, lol.

This year's team deserves a crowd that electric, PERIOD! People can talk about the renovation changing the atmosphere, but if anything the students have a better setup now right behind the bench. People can talk about smart phones being more prevalent today and subduing the crowd, but that hasn't affected elite student sections at Purdue or Kansas being engaged all game long. This should be THE best atmosphere in Champaign since Wake Forest came to town. It starts with the Krush, and they need to emanate a contagious energy all the way up to C section! Your Average Joe attending the game is going to simply react to big plays once they happen unless he gets caught up in the atmosphere and can't bring himself to rest easy because the vibe is electric. Let's make the latter happen!

I actually think Michigan State had a good strategy in triple teaming Edey every time. Make someone else beat you.

With about five minute left, only three players had scored more than 2 points for Purdue. Spartans said, make someone else beat us. Fortunately for Purdue, someone did. But those shots aren't always going to fall.

Purdue always drives me nuts. Having a guy like Edey and the three point shooters they have, they should put up 90 every game. But they don't and the lack of depth is a big reason why.

Purdue made 10 threes on 50% clip vs MSU because they were too focused on trying to stop Edey (who also scored 32 anyway, despite the double/triple teams).

Do your best to contain Edey but stay home on D as much as possible. If they make 10+ threes we are going to lose.

We actually did a good job in Edey last game it was the supporting cast that went off, collectively.

I think if we want to win this game it’ll be on the back of our offense, which most likely means very little Ty.

Given that it’s senior night, ld love for Harmon to start and play extended minutes. Force Edey on Hawkins, open the lane up, and allow guys like Domask and Shannon to do their thing.

Has anybody else tried running Edey like we could? I would think a track meet would wear him out.

That's the only way we win IMO. If this becomes a game in the high 80s low 90s we have a really good shot.

You can't let Edey (or any outstanding post) start backing down off the dribble. Any time he touches the ball you have to come with the hard double IMMEDIATELY. Make him pick the ball up and face guard him.
I fear this would allow the refs to call a "cylinder" call.

What I keep wondering...

Who will Edey guard when Ty Rodgers and Dain are not in the game? Not so sure they will put him on Hawkins.

Will Brad start Ty just because he's a starter, even if he only plays 8-10 minutes this game? If I were coach, I would start someone else and put Ty in the game the second Edey comes out.

This feels like a no brainer to me.

Hawkins does have at least one game of great defense on Edey (last year). Not sure anyone has an answer for what he brings, he’s the definition of “you can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him”.

I think denying entry passes (obviously also difficult) is the best strategy.

I think it will take a combination of 2 or 3 things to come up with the W tomorrow night.....if Edey gets the ball down low and scores consistently while we cover the 3pt arch.....then occasionally drop down and double team him....rotate where the double comes from...keep him guessing as to whether we'll double or not and if we do where's it coming from....run, run and then run some more....anytime the opportunity presents itself we need to push the tempo eliminating Edey's effectiveness...I actually would like to see some full court pressure from our defense to see if we can turn them over....every TO is one less opportunity Edey has to touch the ball down low...I'm guessing the bench will be somewhat limited in it's use tomorrow night...but I personally would like to see 8-9 deep with an uptempo style as much as possible....keep fresh legs in the game...wear them down......I'm predicting the beloved in a close one.....Illinois 84 Purdon't 82.... :hailtotheorange:

If I'm not mistaken, it's Senior Day, so I would guess Harmon gets the start. A good excuse to start him over Ty in this game, if you ask me.

This is not how you beat them. They shoot 41% from three.

In Purdues 2 close losses, Edey still got his points but they were limited from the 3 point line: 3-9 vs Ohio State 5-19 vs Northwestern.

Their other loss at Nebraska was an anomaly and not the blueprint. Nebrasketball made 14 of 23 threes and turned them over 14 times.

It seems counterintuitive, but this is how you do it. Edey will get his points, you have to limit it the best you can, but every other player they put on the floor is deadly from deep. If we hard double Edey the entire game, we'll lose by 25.
The good news for us - every big, even very marginal ones basically score on us like Edey- we don’t stop anyone down low so this game will be no different- just keep on doing what we’re doing and we’ll be fine - basically treat Edey like every other big we play

I hope we play shooters with Edy in as well and whoever Edy is guarding during the game combines to shoot a dozen quality threes and punish them. Without TSJ last match up that really seemed to be effective and can be again. Push TSJ and then go 5 out and abuse Edy from 3. Ty can have his moments when Edy is out but I hope the shooters are in when Edy is. Also box out Edy and hopefully draw some fouls on him when he just shoves his way to the glass over guys. Edy seems to get away with this at Mackey but I hope that is not the case in CU.

who wants to guess the betting line ?

Purdue -1 ?

Line was -10.5 at Purdue when we played them.

We should get 6 point swing just for venue (home vs road) plus whatever amount of points it takes to account for TJ playing. I think you're about right on, could even be a pick 'em.

I think Goode against Purdue is a reasonable match up. Purdue's guards aren't going to abuse Goode's defense as much and they won't back him down. Plus it's good for him to be in there as a rotation shooter instead of Ty. That puts more pressure on Edey to guard the perimeter.

Yeah I don't think Purdue has anyone like Bouie, Walker, Young or Hawkins where they would try to get Goode switched onto them so they can blow by him. There are still situations he could be exploited but he's easier to hide against Purdue than other matchups.

Goode is already BBQ chicken on defense no matter the matchup.

Braden S and Lance Jones will absolutely fry him if Goode's guarding either one.

I've watched EVERY Illini game this season at least twice, yes, even Penn State. (I was punishing myself, apparently). I've seen almost every Purdue game, none twice. (I have my limits....). I am predicting we will win this game at home. I simply don't care about matchups, how much a particular player plays or scores. We are better than them, and at home we win. Book it.
