Purdue shoots the 3 very well when opponents collapse on Edey. He is so tall he easily passes out of double team. Its like playing against Goliath

He had 14 points on 12 shots, and 4 turnovers in the last meeting. He was a net negative no the advanced stats box score.

Illinois lost the first meeting because they forgot Trey Kaufmann-Renn existed for the entire game, and got worked on the boards (43-28)

Cool, check his first 7 min. He set the tone with a 17-4 lead at that point. I get your point that we did better on him after that start and others hurt us. My point is we can't let him have those stretches.

THIS. Coleman has been instrumental in the continued growth of this program despite his challenging tough love relationship with Brad. A four year player whose best days in basketball may still be ahead of him if his knee issue ever gets resolved. A California kid who could have left the central Illinois cornfields in the age of the portal. But he stayed and ceded his anticipated role of scorer to Marcus in particular for the good of the team, sacrificing shots a more unselfish player trying to attract the NBA's attention would definitely have taken. I hope that tomorrow's Senior Night contest is remembered as "the Hawkins' game" in ILLINI lore as this somewhat taken for granted team player buries numerous 3 point shots from the top of the key on his way to a win over Purdue to jump start a season ending run to the Final Four. Thanks to a throwback multi-talented 4 year player who made ILLINI basketball fun for all of us!
Coleman bleeds orange and blue as much as anybody every played for Illini. He came back for his SR year. Watching him grow and improve from freshman to senior has been a wonderful experience. You can tell he is dying for a March run by the Illini. Wishing him the best. I hope he goes crazy with more 30 point games vs Purdue, Iowa, BTT and NCAAs.

Edey is good at passing out of double team. This gives his teamates lots of open looks including 40.5% on 3's
Illinois shoots 35.4% on 3's because they don't get the same open looks that Purdue shooters get.

First game in West Lafayette without TSJ was 83-78 which totals 161. TSJ is worth more than 4 points on the over-under not just for his scoring, but for the way he speeds the game up which means more possessions for both teams. If the O/U is really 164.5 at this point and we all bet on the over. we may have enough LOYALTY NIL money next year to bring Marcus back, assuming he gets the redshirt. I'm in for a Benjamin!

If Edey scores 40 on 30 shots you let him. Run the guys off the 3 point line
I like strategy of denying 3p. I expect Edey to have 2 fouls in First 8 min and be on bench for half the game..don't think he will get enough tick for 30 shots.

This post gave me chills. Hawk has giving his blood, sweat, and tears to us. Let’s have him ball out at home one last time

Besides none of the above, what officials would you like to see tomorrow night? Sure don’t want anyone I’ve never heard of, like at Ped St.

You can't let Edey (or any outstanding post) start backing down off the dribble. Any time he touches the ball you have to come with the hard double IMMEDIATELY. Make him pick the ball up and face guard him.
It works better if you wait until he puts the ball down and then bring the double from behind him.

A lot of talk about letting Edey go off vs. doubling and allowing a three point barrage, but to me the key to this game is doing exactly what we didn’t do last time: REBOUND. We gave up 16 on the offensive glass to them last time, were -15 on the boards overall, and I recall TKR having at least 3 back-breaking O boards that led to fouls or And-1s. I think you can live with Edey taking jump hooks but if you don’t put a body on him or anyone else and the effort isn’t there on the glass, we won’t win.

Does anyone know if a replay of this game will be available on peacock?

I waited a couple of hours after the last peacock game and did not see the replay available that night, but there were replays from previous days listed. It appears that maybe they are available the next day, which is frustrating when forking over the money.
MAKE SOME NOISE TOMORROW!!!!!!!

Need to stop his offensive rebounds. Significant source of both him scoring and open 3 pointers. Wonder if this is game to play Hawk and Dain together. Dain tougher to muscle and still quicker than Edey. He also runs the floor well. Edey averages as many offense rebounds as Hawk and Quincy together. Stop this and the scoring won’t be a problem (maybe).
I could be wrong, but it seemed Michigan State had a good gameplan for this Saturday night. It seemed like they sent 3 back for the defensive rebound and the player directly challenging Edey on the rebound would just tap it towards one of the other Michigan state players near the basket. One on one you will not beat Edy for most rebounds, so this seemed to be pretty effective.
