I really want to see some fast passing around on our offensive possessions. When I watch teams like Gonzaga, they are passing right after they receive the ball until they get an open three or the big man is open down low, and I feel like our offense would be even better if we could add that to our team.
Off-topic, but is there a story that goes with the (apparent) misspelling in your avatar?

Rutgers has been pretty bad to start the year off, tonights an opertunity to see if they can handle a bottom tier acc school.

First game in a while I'm optimistic about, therefore we naturally will lose.

I think we match up well against them, they're awful beyond the arc.

As long as RHJ is still on that team I'll always be afraid, seems to always go off against us. I was shocked recently to find out he isn't in fact a high volume 50+% 3pt shooter typically.

Will it, though? Notre Dame is a much better team than Rutgers (allegedly, it's still early). If we keep the energy and don't get anyone else sick or hurt, I think we are just fine.
I will be the first and last inhabitant of Pikiell Island. He will have them ready to get after it.

Also, Geo Baker is a hall of fame "that guy has been at that school for fifty years" guy.

Typically Rutgers will apply more pressure on defense. ND applied no defensive pressure and thus gave illini fans encouragement that things will be ok. Don’t care current rankings they aren’t a good gage of outcome

Geo's been hurt, but yeah he's been a 5 year starter for them.

As long as we can a avoid a 36 to 15 FT attempt disparity, I think we got it

Wondering if there is any information on if Hutcherson will be back with the team for this game?

First time I've commented on Loyalty in three years. Hope everyone is doing good.

Reflecting back on the Notre Dame game, Illinois did a good job of passing the ball around and we saw good ball movement. Didn't let the ball stick, as the assist numbers showed. Would like to see that continue going into Friday against Rutgers. Seems like Geo Baker and Ron Harper Jr. have been there 50 years. Can't overlook them.

Given how Goode and RJ played against Notre Dame, I expect more tick out of those two. I'm impressed with those guys. Future looks bright with the length and athleticism they bring to the table.

Go Illini!
I certainly hope you are correct but i fear that when we get more starters back healthy or we get into a coach mindset of shortening the roster that both goode and rj will be on the bench.
I think we played much better with them in the game.

They are a very different team away from home and they have no answer for Kofi. Plus, the flu and injuries have to abate at some point, right?
I agree that I think we win, I just think they are going to give a good game. They always seem to play really good against us. And they looked good against a so-so Clemson team last night.

I loved seeing Duke get beat by the OSU last night.

Harper Jr has been a thorn in our side for what seems like a decade. Tough cover, but guys like that being a mismatch will be a thing of the past soon because the defensive potential of players like Melendez and Rodgers at the 3/4. Hopefully Damonte makes like difficult for him.

I think we win this one somewhat easily because I believe the loss of Myles Johnson is huge for them. He was a good, smart defender and rebounder. Last year’s Rutgers game turned around when Johnson got all the second half tick because Kofi was stuffing Omoruyi in a locker (that and the phantom technical on Damonte). Put me down for a double digit win and Paul Mulcahy sobbing as Kofi puts him on a poster.

Yes they did play well. Goode seems to already willing to lead, let's the game come to him and won't force things. He is pretty solid all around. Physically he looks pretty good on defense too.
Watching parts of the games last night including the Indiana loss. I felt Goode has a similar skill set to Kopp. I hope Goode plays more and keeps getting better. I love what I've seen from Goode so far. Is under control and doesn't seem to be playing like a freshman so early on in his career.

I’m sure it’s exaggerated over time, but my memory is that under both Lou and Bruce we so often rolled during the pre-conference season just to flop in early conference games and put ourselves in a hole. I recall at least one late Lou year where we may have even been undefeated in noncon and then missed the tournament.
The Henson Years: I'm not going to google, but I recall 31-game regular seasons (18 home/away conference games and 13 non-conference games). Our 13-0 record in 1979 was rare, but 12-1 or 11-2 were routine and expected. 10-3 was typically worst case.
