What worries me about this game is that Rutgers have had this game circled since we stole the game last year on a miracle pass play. They still have a chance at a bowl game. They still have Maryland and a broken Penn State team. Schiano will have his guys ready. kaliakmanis can sling it. They have as couple of tough receivers in Strong and Duff. We have seen pass happy teams just eat us up. They did put up 28 against Iowa. If we play D like we did last week, we could be in trouble. I think we win but it may not be easy. We have yet to play an easy game in conference as of yet. I hope BB has the D ready to play. This could be a 42-38 type game.

We need the D to step up. If they play like they did against UW it's a loss.

i want nothing like our D against Washington. i know that Wash kid can scramble, but when you play a soft zone and can't rush the passer,
the QB is going to look like f'ing Dan Marino slinging it all over the field. that game made me sicker that i've been watching the illini since
at Purdue two years ago. we had no answer. I hope it was scheme related but i'm afraid it wasn't.

Tickets are down to $9 for tomorrow's game 😧 I wonder what the actual gate will be? Will find out next year via the News-Gazette's annual FOIA I suppose.

I'm going man to man coverage tomorrow and bringing the hottest % of blitz packages we have seen all year. Give your defense the chance to make plays early and get some swag back. The Rutgers line is subpar, mostly due to injuries. Believe they are on their 3rd string tackle? Bring the stunts, blitz off the edge, move Jacas inside/outside. Nuts on the table game.

You need to force 3 punts to win this game. Maybe less if you can force a few field goals. Go all out and ensure you find a way to get a couple stops. The tentative soft zone loses you the game or at best makes it a 34-31 type shootout.

Offense?

No field goals unless you are stuck on 4th and long in the 40 to 50 yard range.

I'm telling Barry Lunney to play call for 4 downs. This also gives you the opportunity to run the ball more. Since 3rd and 7 becomes a possible running down.

IMO a short field doesn't change the possibility THAT much in Rutgers scoring %. If anything it keeps your defense on the field LESS time 😂.

Would love to see it, But this goes against pretty much everything BB has tried to do in his history. Hopefully, he agrees that we need a lot more aggressiveness on the defensive side. The offense will take care of itself if we can just force a couple of punts in the first half.

And you could add USC. They have NFL players everywhere including the dynamic receivers they have. Duke’s quarterback has listed as one of the top college QBs. Rutgers has a good quarterback, but I think the difference in the game is we wear them down running the ball later in the game and pull away.

Once upon a time, we had players on our defense who looked at each other and said, "meet you at the quarterback."

We could use some of that attitude tomorrow.

I'm gonna be shocked (and upset) if we come out with our "just contain the QB" D against a QB who is not a threat to run. I'm fairly confident that's not gonna happen.

Pretty sure it was scheme related. But yeh, if it wasn't, we might be in trouble.

Kaliakmanis is a scrappy football player. Not fast or really very athletic but picked up some big first downs with his legs last year.

That said illini 38, jersey shore 21

If we don't become a school known for putting pinning our ears back and coming after the quarterback on a regular basis I don't see us ever reaching the cfp level. Gotta bring it every down like your hair is on fire imo. Until our defense, whoever is calling the plays does this, we will be on the outside looking in.

Imo it doesn't matter how much we win by here on out. Still have a clear path for a awesome bowl game win to keep the momentum going(hopefully miznoz). Just need the boys to find their mojo and play free with an edge. Been tip toeing on egg shells trying not to screw up a potential playoff berth... well that ain't happening so now it's time to play like there's respect on the line, BECAUSE THERE IS!!
