It’s your weekly reminder to TAKE THE UNDER!

Rutgers has averaged 11.5 points over their last 4 games. Illinois has not done much better, averaging 13.3 points in their last 4. I’m not a mathematical whiz like most of you engineers on here, but that’s some low scoring football.

Greg Schiano coached teams are about .500 coming out of bye weeks. The games tend to go in two directions, either blowout (shutout) wins or close and competitive games. If Illinois can get into the end zone (large IF with our QB play) it should be a good game.

The battle for the Ray Guy Award is on this week between Australians Blake Hayes and Adam Korsak. Korsak is averaging 47 yards per punt and has 13 punts going over 50 yards. Hayes is averaging 45 yards per kick and has 10 punts over 50 yards on the season. For punts downed inside the 20, Hayes has the slight edge over Korsak 20-19. In the word of Brad Underwood, elite punting.

With two elite punters, offenses that are down right offensive, and competent defenses this all comes down to a realtor’s favorite phrase, field position, field position, field position. The team that can create turnovers that flip the field into scoring opportunities should pull this out. Oh, and take the under.
