I put it this way- we're a three-loss team too early in the season. You'd have to go back to 2017 to find a champion with this many losses this early. The metrics love us, but we're surrounded by teams with 0-2 losses. If you narrow it down to just the nine teams ahead of us in NET, all of their Q1 records are better than ours, the only team that doesn't have four Q1 wins yet in the top 10 other than us is Gonzaga, whose fourth Q1 game was the blowout loss to Michigan.
Good point but should we look at the schedules? We've played 6 top 50 teams in 14 games (KP)

Florida played 2
Uconn played 6
Uconn played 4
Kansas, played 4
Virginia, played 3
Nova, played 3
UNC, played 3
Nova, played 5
Duke, played 3
UConn, played 4

So the avg champion last 10 years played 3-4 top 50 teams, and a couple of those had 3 or more losses.

Even If we had replaced Uconn/bama with a cupcake team wed still be above avg in the top 50s of this list in terms of the games and likely would be 13-1. Would we feel much better? Not sure

EDIT: adding top 25 teams played for another dimension

Illinois, played 4

Florida: 1
Uconn: 4
Uconn: 1
Kansas: 1
Virginia: 3
Nova: 3
UNC: 3
Nova: 3
Duke: 2
Uconn: 1

Watching Rutgers barely win tonight in OT, I think they might have one player who would be in our rotation, possibly two, but 8-9. If we don't win this one by 30 with a good game by Tomi, then I'll start to get worried about March

The general point I get. But expecting to win P4 games, against anybody, is probably setting yourself up for heartburn. Closest Kenpom opponents i could find were actually 30 spots in both directions - Penn St. 30 spots higher, and LIU 30 spots lower. 🤷‍♂️

Let's just go out there and play a good game.

I am a few days away from 65 years old and this will be my first game to watch in person. I am geeked! Can anyone offer any tips on parking? How early to arrive? A decent place to grab a burger or sandwich before the game? I am riding with an old friend almost my age. We are coming from and returning to Metro-East and we are old guys so not gonna by drinking. GO ILLINI!
You can park in the E-14 Lot just to the west of the stadium for $20. The entrance is on Oak Street. I try to start walking up to the stadium at least 30 minutes before tip-off.

Bonus — If you can stay after the game is over and wait for the crowd to clear out, BU will come back out on the court to do the post-game radio interview with Brian and Deon and it’s broadcast over the PA.

Hey Fellas,
My girl and I are driving down from Rockford for the Rutgers game. Is there anything special going on, orange out perhaps?

It's always paint the hall orange, right? I never understood not wearing orange.

I've not heard of anything. Should be pretty quiet with the students still gone. I'm on campus today and it's a ghost town.

IMO default crowd setting should be Orange Out unless otherwise notified :p

Are these fans that deliberately ignore the coordinated crowd things the same people that hang out in the left lane driving the speed limit and shrug laugh when faster traffic comes up behind them?

These are the first people to go if there's ever a real The Purge.

If you see old photos or videos from circa 2005, it's honestly crazy how much more often people wore orange back in that era.

This was our Braggin' Rights contingent this year:

While there is still definitely a lot of orange, just compare it to this photo from the 2006-07 Braggin' Rights Game (courtesy of Illinois Loyalty archives!!) or this zoomed in photo of our crowd contingent for the 2005 National Championship (we obviously had huge majorities in every section, but I am talking specifically about the "assigned" sections behind our bench).

I'm sure part of the blame lies with the apparel manufacturers and stores, as there are probably way more navy, white and gray options now. It is a bit of an unfortunate trend as far as our home court atmosphere goes, and it was a lot cooler when all Illini fans in non-Champaign arenas wore orange and made ourselves super visible.

P.S. Regarding the Braggin' Rights photos, when and W-H-Y did Enterprise Center decide it was a good idea to make the upper deck like pitch black? Looks like crap and gives the place a dreary atmosphere, lol.

MSG and Staples do this too.

Indiana HS basketball, especially the very suburban gyms, also do this. In smaller arenas and gyms I actually think it can be cool.

But in the big open stadiums that host multiple sporting events, I agree with you, looks off
