I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t feel good about this one.

I hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't see us having enough explosion on offense or the ability of the defense to stop sellers to be competitive. Maybe I just need a dose of orange kool-aid. I'm extremely happy they over achieved this year and fought their way to a 9-3 record, but I just don't think they are really quite at that level yet

ILL 14

A comfortably Gamecock win is probably the most sound prediction. My moderate take wants to take this stance.

....but I can't, this might be more fever dream than prognostication, Olano kicks a late FG to win this game in a surprising upset. Based on the bowl games being higher scoring than expected, I'll take the following:

Illinois 29
South Carolina 27

First win over SEC in program history
First 10-win season since 2001
First season to finish ranked in AP Poll since 2007

My fan takes

- Big, bold takes will arise from this game regarding Malachi Hood and JoJo Hayden because of Sellers' playing style.
- Plenty of folks will post in the game thread and on social media that the announcers are constantly mentioning how South Carolina almost or should have been in the playoff but ask why they aren't also mentioning Illinois.
- Questions will arise tomorrow about whether Illinois should add a transfer RB (they shouldn't).

I can only imagine what that bride is getting in return for agreeing to this…hall pass night with pruman?
Maybe the bride is a big football fan and wants to do this? Football just hits a little bit differently in the South.

On January 2, 2023 (two bowl games within two calendar years!), the Illini played without three eventual NFL players (shout out to Quan Martin who did play) against an SEC team that had just lost it's coach.

And the Illini were winning or tied until there were 4 seconds left on the clock.

I think this team isn't as good as those Illini, and I think this South Carolina is better than that Mississippi State, but let's not pretend we don't have a chance.

Go Illini.

My hopes are high, and my expectations are low. We'll need several turnovers to have a chance in this one.

Go Illini!

I am glad they spelled Illinois correctly.

For those who remember, I wonder if one of the announcers will call us the "ILL EE NEE"

let's be honest and look at it even-minded... we're not winning. circumstances are too tall, they have almost everything we struggle against and we don't have our best player. But keep it close and be competitive, if you can do that, not much of a bad look at all to close out 2024.

What a great holiday treat to see the Illini play in a really nice bowl game against a big-time SEC opponent that probably should have been in the playoffs (based on first-round blowouts).
I’ll guess 31-27 SC with my head and 20-17 Illini with my heart. Yes, I know it’s not really a prediction if you pick both teams.🤷‍♂️
