It's weird (and unoriginal, I see a couple other people saying it), but I feel better about this game following the MD loss. Maryland played great, in front of a raucous home crowd, and somehow* we were in that game until the final two possessions.

*this is an honest use of somehow - we weren't shooting very well, foul trouble disrupted our rotations, Epps had That One Game every freshman has....and we just charged through it.

I didn't really feel Epps had that bad of a game. He got caught early doing what everyone does and it disrupted any possibility of him getting into a flow. If he gets one less foul, he probably plays his usual game, and we're talking about Epps being a hero. But that's not the way the zebra Gods worked.

I don't like losing, but I didn't feel it was a bad loss either. We saw CoHawk step up again, TSJ was welcomed to the B1G and didn't back down, and we played down a number of guys for whatever reasons (Harris, Mayer, Epps, Goode).

I remember some of the insiders talking about Rodgers running the point and being our best freshman during the preseason, but I see he only played 9 minutes last night. Was that all hype? He's a stud, no doubt, but is there a bigger learning curve than expected?

And Maryland's press seems to be much more effective than whatever we are attempting to run.

Sorry for posting on the Texas thread with Maryland commentary. To make it fluid...I expected us to dominate on the neutral court, and Luke Goode will hit three treys from the bench with a towel covering his face.

It's not weird, it's how I feel (well, that's unconvincing as I may well be quite weird.) Our guys dominated a weaker Syracuse squad Tuesday with D, came in here last night and got punked defensively for a long while. I see them going in Tuesday to MSG loose and focused. I think it will be a game not dissimilar form the Virginia one, which was ours to win.

I feel great about our team. Watching them in person last night was a treat. The luxury of depth and variety from which BU can draw is embarrassing. It's a matter of the frosh learning the hard way in tough, tight games, and the team learning to play under such pressure cohesively.

I have no worries. This winter is going to be a great ride. I see us utterly destroying Miznoz on the 22nd.

Should be one heck of a match up and the fact that it'll be in NYC at Madison Square Garden only makes it more awesome. Hopefully Spike Lee will be in the house to watch Illinois get the win. lord knows that guy is long overdue for some quality basketball after all these years of the Knicks being horrible lol.

Do the right thing Illini and beat Texas

TSJ and Mayer should know the scouting report for Texas. Hopefully they can teach the younger players

Our team is really good on transition and playing an uptempo style. I worry about this team playing the half court we are way to reliant on the 3. With the players we have there should be able to drive it more and draw more fouls

Offense seems to get bogged down when he's out there. Love the energy and the motor, but the (to this point) complete absence of an outside shot really hurts.

I said before tonight I thought we’d lose to Maryland and beat Texas. I stand by that.

We’re due for another game where it’s all clinking, and I’m calling it now - everyone’s intensity is through the roof, Shannon goes off and we get a signature win!
Yeah I’m kind of tired of all my favorite teams losing lately. I’m hoping our basketball team can be that bright spot. And I feel like we’re due for another signature win. Let’s go get ‘em!

Part of the issue for Rodgers’ somewhat limited playing time in games other than against cupcakes (or blow outs) is positional competition. I don’t think he can play PG, at least not yet, and might have been BU blowing smoke in off season as he can do. He could initiate things like COHawk, but that means his competition for PT us more CoHawk/RJ/Mayer rather than Skyy/Epps.

Though it was a loss, the Maryland game converted me from a Hawkins hopeful to a Hawkins believer.

agreed! sure he needs to clean some stuff up but there's no way that is remotely close to a 1 possession game at the end without Coleman's effort throughout the game. its only his 2nd year starting and 1st in a featured role; by my eyes, the entire team is ahead of schedule c/w my preseason hopes. here's to the train continuing to role the rest of the season!!!!

Texas has a different coach.
