Rodgers is the only freshman with a tougher road to playing time. We have this All American in front of him. He will be fine.
Hawk is having a good year, but I doubt anyone at this point would have him as an AA. Probably not even All Big Ten first team.

TSJ on the other hand.

Interesting...when I read the post, I did not even consider that Rodgers, listed as a G/F and having seen time in practice as a PG, would be playing as a backup to Hawkins. TSJ was my immediate thought. Pretty sure CoHawk is not keeping Rodgers on the bench. That honor to me belongs toTSJ, RJ, Goode, and Mayer who are pretty good sized perimeter AND inside performers ahead of him. Just MHO.

What I see in Ty is an effort and motor that can be counted upon, great handle and passing skill, instinctive rebounder, excellent athleticism, and a guy who seeks to score whenever he gets the ball within 6-8 ft. of the basket. But, to put those skills to work and earn starter minutes on a championship team, he needs to develop a jumper he can bury inside 15 ft. and hit FTs at 70% plus. I won't proclaim that observation to be profound, just truthful. Until then, he will be a guy that the coach can count on to not make mistakes while bringing solid defense, good decisions, grabbing tough rebounds, and scoring in close at a high clip when opportunity knocks.and . That is not a bad thing, but I think he may have higher aspirations.

Yeah, Ty will be just fine next year at minimum - let's not get ahead of ourselves in early December. In the bulk of our schedule, TJ will play as many minutes as he can handle, and that doesn't take anything away from Ty.

Client in Austin called me today on business. I told her at one point...big game tomorrow against Illinois...she and hubby big UT fans, graduates, etc. There was kind of a silence on the other end of the phone. I said "basketball. " After she recovered she said oh yeah, my husband was looking through his sports stuff the other day and he said "hey we're doing pretty good in basketball."

I think Ty, at this time, is pretty much an interior guy. I also wouldn't say he has a "great" handle. It's good for a PF, great is a bit much.

We are going to break out with a big shooting night soon, maybe tonite.
If we do and make texas guard us 25' from the basket, we add dribble drive
pull ups and dunks and blow them out. Three point shooting at a 40-42%
level from 4 or 5 players could make us a top 5 team. currently we're 124th
at 35%. We are better than that.

I feel like that's about to happen !!

It's gonna be a defensive war. We've proven we can hang in there against good teams even when shots aren't falling, but boy we could really use some regression back to the mean. We desperately need to take care of the basketball as well. I don't think we can survive >11 turnovers tonight.

Really good parallel. We failed to close out all of those games and let them slip away. I think that flaw will be overcome as this team starts to gel as a cohesive unit.
Meh. My sense was that the football losses were mostly games that we led late, and just couldn't hold on. The games were too long. The two hoops losses, on the other hand, are games where we made furious comebacks, but just didn't have enough time time. The games were too short.

Texas guards are really really good. If our freshman can hang, we have a chance to win. This game will tell us a lot tonight.
