I don't know why, but I want to say that anything short of "an obvious" winner is going to be disappointing to me. I get it.... Toledo is not your average MAC team or whatever, but that's Beckman/Lovie era pre-excuse making. Are we better than Toledo? We sure as hell better be. Then why are we even questioning this?

34-14 in a game where Toledo is never even a thought, and scores a final TD in garbage time.
If only sports were as simple as “the better team always wins easily & convincingly”

1: Upsets happen every year. The better team does not always win the game.

2: We’re breaking in a brand new secondary after 3 members of last year’s secondary were selected top 66 in the draft. And that new secondary is going up against an illusive, mobile quarterback who can pass.

3: We’re breaking in a brand new QB who’s started one game in his entire career and it wasn’t for us + we lost our NFL running back.

4: We lost our defensive coordinator and half of our defensive staff in the off-season.

5: This is the first game of the season, which can have weird results because it can take time to break in the new pieces.

I could write another 5 reasons why I’m confident we still win this game.

That being said, just win baby. I don’t care if it’s by 1 or 100, just win.

This is my final update of the Sellout Watch ticket tracker for Toledo. Estimated attendance still coming in around 46,500. With day-of ticket sales and what I believe to be conservative assumptions baked into the tracker, I'm hopeful that announced attendance will be over 47,000. If that happens, it would be a larger drawing than last year's Iowa game and that's mind blowing.

Our two comments are not mutually exclusive. Students are the last to arrive and the first to leave. I stand by that.

Prove me wrong this year, student section.
I totally get it. For years, the student sections was rough. At peak, maybe 1/3 full by early second quarter and I would hope the crowd would stay to the half. 1st quarter was also dismal. But, I went to three games last year and the student section was more densely packed than the rest of the stadium (maybe not the horseshoe but definitely the east stands…yikes…I hope they never show the east balcony). My family postulated that the post Covid students were just excited to be back out (or for the first time) in the student section. But in general I agree with you, they take the Dodger fan’s approach to game time arrivals.

This is really cool that you do this. Hoping your tracker is on point.

I think we will easily when all said and done, but it will be close in the first half as some of our younger/new starters get their jitters out. We win going away with a strong performance in the second half 37-17.

Ok College Gameday just went overboard with putting us on upset alert. So Toledo won the MAC last year. That's like saying that a college sprinter won some events at a grade school track and field event. Let's get real, and blow them away today. I have huge faith in this Defense to put the absolute stranglehold on teams like this. Bret has this team turning a corner and believe me, they will be ready.

I figured you meant "elusive" but you know, I think both would work.

Did Tulane get better from 2021 to 2022? They knocked off great Kansas State and USC teams last year. Both the G5 and P5 team can be good, and the G5 squad come out on top.

Also based on returning talent and cohesive staff Toledo will be good in 2023 regardless of who the Rockets play week 1. Being offended that you're on upset alert is silly. Just go out and do the thing.

So this mobile, Toledo QB. Can he throw well on the run? Seems like our front 7 ought to be able to get pressure on him, but as he slips out of the pocket will he be effective as a passer?
