His dad was an absolute nutjob in the old CBA days. He was easily the 2nd-favorite coach Quad City Thunder fans loved to hate behind Charlie Rosen (who called Wharton Field House a phone booth - honestly, he really wasn't wrong no matter how much I love Wharton Field House - and then endured the sound effect of a phone ringing and the crowd chanting, "Charlie, it's for you!").

Apple didn't fall far from the tree with Eric's sideline behavior.

Just wanted to say best part of this board is learning things about basketball history from people who've been tuned in 10x longer than I have. Thanks for the info, had no idea Musselman's dad was a CBA coach.

Had the feeling as soon as I heard KJ was out that yes he is sore and our coach wanted to take no chances but more importantly he wanted to see the team minus the leader.

The book company I worked for did a book on Musselman/Minnesota’s first season. Was in the works when I got hired. One of the worst titles/cover ever. Think the publisher came up i with it, trying to get all the info in it he could.

When I was made editor a couple years later, I had to fight him on other such terrible titles.

Probably won't affect the game much if at all, but I'm sure a lot of people associated with the USC program are distracted by the fires right now. The devastated areas aren't really near their campus, but it seems like the whole city is tangentially impacted in terms of air quality, available resources, etc.

I remember watching that game. What a bunch of thugs.... That's who Musselman recruited and they tried to rough up every team they played against. It was like they were trying to play hockey other teams playing basketball. And Luke Witte, a finesse big man was never the same after the kneeing, a washout.

In the big scheme of things and in the stand-out history of ILLINI basketball, this was not a really talented team. Weber and Groce mostly recruited 3-star talent. It was painful, and more like watching Rutgers or Northwestern basketball. We may have gotten attached to the players and the personalities, but we were not going to win any Big 10 titles with that bunch.

On the other hand, the teams recruited and coached by Henson, Kruger, Self and Underwood have all been head/shoulders above that really lean stretch of eight years in the early 2010's. Just not up to our standards. Sorta like the entire decade of the 1970's!

That 2011 class referenced had 5 top 100 guys in the same class…Myke Henry, Mike Shaw and Tracy were all top 60 guys…Egwu and Langford were 80-100.

Jim Brewer was an absolute star on a state championship Proviso East team in 1969, and the prime recruit for Illinois’ Harv Schmidt. Musselman came out of nowhere and signed him to Minnesota. There was a lot of speculation that big under the table $ was involved. Brewer went on to become a stud in college and the #1 NBA draft pick. Missing out on Brewer was the start of the downfall of Schmidt’s program.

Musselman Jr, is worse than his father. Total tool and loser. One of those coaches that's walks in locker room after loss and drops his pants and screams. Should coach at PennSt..

Jim Brewer signed with the University of Minnesota in the summer of 1969. He was recruited by an assistant Minnesota coach named Al Nuness. Nuness was from Maywood, Il. The Coach of the Gophers at the time was Bill Fitch. Yes, that Bill Fitch. Fitch was replaced for the 1970 season by George Hanson. Musselman was not the Coach at Minnesota until 1971. Brewer was in his third season with the Gophers in 1971. Harv had very little success recruiting Illinois High School Black players. Crimeny, Clyde Turner was from Champaign, and he ended up at Minnesota after two years of Junior College in Carthage Illinois.

He did the ol' blow-by during the handshake line against Indiana and didn't shake hands with Woodson. Then he acted like no one should like him.

Muss is the biggest crybaby in the sport right now. Stick him and SC's football coach in a padded room and see which one comes out with the most scratches.
