After having plenty of time to recover from the explosive diarrhea that was last weekend, I'll take off my Orange shades and put on some Orange contacts. Now that I can see clearly, I'm going with us pulling this off 33-27. This is NOT the Illini of the past...as we never won a major bowl game in our previous 9-10 win seasons (since 1999). This is likely new territory for a majority of the users on here. Even a 3-4 loss team after a major bowl game win will be a first for us.

Last year they switched to more gap blocking and had success. Maybe we see more trap blocking also. I would hope after last weeks performance the oline comes out with a chip on their shoulder

This is the problem of being exposed of serious issues and having limited time before the next game to address those concerns and build your plan for the opponent.

They are gonna stunt/bring pressure until Illinois proves able to stop it.

Might not even have to...

Their front 4 may be good enough to pressure Luke without blitzing.

THIS is the week to bring out the fake punt or just flat out go for it on 4th down. Dan Campbell style

I don't know if you can truly STOP USC from scoring more than a handful of times. So what's the difference in giving them the ball at their 40 or your 25?

Opens up your play calling and allows you to be more aggressive. It can also help your stay in your run game when you are getting 3 yards a carry.

Most OCs skip to passing if they don't get 5 or 6 yards on 1st down running the ball.

I don't think we run the table, but I still think 10–2 or 9–3 is still possible if we do a few things:

A. We’ve gotta win more up front.

B. We’ve gotta get rid of some of those long-developing plays. When we’re behind the sticks or putting Luke in harm’s way, that’s not who we are.

C. We’ve gotta get back to putting together long, sustained drives that take time off the clock and wear people down.

D. Tackle better and get healthier in the secondary.

E. Start faster, but keep our composure and keep fighting if we fall behind.

If we do those things, play physical, play smart, and stay disciplined, we’re gonna put ourselves in position to win a lot more games.

That's all we have to do. I feel better about our chances.

I took a quick look and the total attempts stats don't bear it out much, but it does seem as though Luke is a little slower to just take off and run this year vs last year. Even against WMU he took a couple sacks where it sure seemed in the past he woulda taken off & at least got 5 yards.

He was pretty effective at those scramble plays to get some first downs & pick up chunk yards last year. Seems to have pulled back the reigns a bit on that this year. It's a balancing act cause of course he has to be kept healthy but some of those timely third down scrambles pick up key first downs & seem to demoralize the defense.

Just gonna throw it out there.

I genuinely think if we shifted to this OL combination we might see some more success.

LT - JC Davis
LG - Josh Gesky
C - Josh Kruetz
RG - Melvin Priestly
RT - Dez Schuster

Allows Kruetz to stay in position to have continuity with Luke, but strengthens his help by adding Melvin where he’ll likely play in the NFL and gets what sounds like our best 5 on the line.

I like the idea. Possibility for a better interior push on the run. We've heard a lot of good things about Dez, sink or swim
