If the Illini beat Wisconsin and play Michigan on Saturday maybe it’s better than playing them Sunday. If they win they get confidence and a better resume. If they lose they get more rest before round 1.
I don’t think a Michigan loss affects our NCAA seed, but a Wisky loss WILL. Hate this matchup.

I have been so disappointed the last few years with the Illini's showing in any tourney. I am not going to set myself for more disappointments. If they wind up playing Wisconsin in the Big-they will lose-Wisconsin can shoot the 3's and the Illini will let them.
In the NCAA I think they win the first game and are upset [if you want to call it that] in game 2. Another year of BIG HYPE down the drain!

I believe we will come out of our funk for the game against (likely) Wisconsin and win. The big test is how we play Michigan the next game. If we come out and lay down like we did at home, it will be very disappointing going into the Tourney. If we play them tough, even in a loss, we'll all feel better going forward.

This. We just aren't and going to be a big problem against the Badgers.

I don't get it, honestly? Wisconsin was our worst loss of the season... was a Q2 loss until yesterday, I believe. We were playing better when we took our worst loss of the whole season?

Illinois shot 5/24 from 3, that's what happened. We didn't play poorly overall.

21/31 (68% from 2)
21/26 (81% from FT line)
12 off rebs on 29 misses (41.4% off reb rate)
7 turnovers (3 below season average)
5 steals, 3 blocks
12 personal fouls (20 for Maryland)

What did you guys not see? Answer: 3 point shots swishing through the net.

Never take a road game for granted in big boy college basketball. UConn shot poorly on Saturday and took a 6 point loss vs an 11-19 Marquette team.

I honestly am starting to think it is just this style of play with the crashing the offensive glass that gives casual fans the heebie jeebies. Imagine turning on a basketball game and:

missed shot
offensive reb
missed shot
offensive reb
missed shot
offensive reb
made shot

The team scored 2 points on that possession, but to the casual observer you might as well put some circus music in the background and call it a blooper reel.

Honestly thinking we were playing better with two 13 ppg scorers out and taking our worst loss of the season is very wild take imo. Why can't we just admit Maryland (Andre Mills, in particular) played their hind ends off and we escaped a UConn vs Marquette type loss?

Wagler seems to be frustrated by the physical guarding against him. There is a lot of tape out there now and teams know they need to body him hard. He's still getting to the line but it has mad him much less efficient. The Ivisic brothers are doing their best Justin Harmon impression down the stretch (he had zero made threes in his last 13 games on that Elite Eight team). If these things continue it's not going to be a very long March. Hopefully some time off helps. Would be nice to see one good game in the Big Ten Tournament, but Big Z has made 2 threes in the past month. Tomi and Wagler havent been that bad but also haven't been shooting well.

I'd agree, it was a good regular season. No bad losses, which had bit us in previous years.

But for me, this year is about the post season. S16 or bust for me. We need to start making the second weekend consistently.
Agree. If we had also been told we would lead the nation in offensive efficiency and be in the top 25 defensively, the expectations would be higher than a 2nd round bow out. Super happy with our success the past decade, but with success come expectations. And that is a good thing!

This is the thing that concerns me the most:

Indiana 7/31 (22%)
USC 13/29 (45%)
UCLA 14/42 (31%)
Michigan 9/29 (31%)
Oregon 10/36 (28%)
Maryland 5/24 (21%)

Total 58/191 (30.4%)

That's a heavy downward trend for our outside shooting. Since the first half of the Oregon game we are 8/44 (18%). I believe that's more related to taking lower quality shots than it is anything else. It just seems like we are tired or sick or not willing to make the extra pass. When we do, the ball seems to go in much more often.

We have four days off to recover. Hopefully that provides enough time for illnesses and injuries to continue to improve. Just win game 1, don't care against Michigan as we have locked in a two seed. Then we get another 4-5 days to recover for the tournament.

Yeah. We're gonna have to pray that OSU somehow upsets Michigan. They're the one team who looks completely unbeatable in this tournament, and with the exception of 2-3 teams (Duke and Arizona are literally the only 2 teams who can beat them, in my opinion. Maybe Wisconsin if they haven't run out of upset magic.) in MM as well.
Florida over Michigan

That, topped with the cumulative overload of supporting a team without Boswell for several games and Andrej for a few has caused a lot of additional fatigue. You can also factor in the west coast trip and three overtimes.

Probably a good rundown of events, yeah... I hope they get their legs back under them and unsure I want them to play 3 games in 3 days in the BTT... though would never wish for a loss

Exactly. Sweet 16 or it's a disappointing season. That should be the standard.
Agree. Potential framework for evaluating an entire season, which is NCAAT driven. Ultimate goal for every season is a NCAAT championship season. Period.

Don't make it: Not acceptable season
First round exit: Bad season
2nd round exit: Average season
Sweet 16 exit: Good
Elite 8 exit: Very good
F4 or Runner up: Great
F4 Winner: Championship season

Anyone know if the game tickets for Friday session generally increase or decrease in price as the week goes on and teams start dropping? Looking at going to our game on Friday but not sure whether better to wait out the prices

We aren't getting a 1 seed and if 1 win locks up the 2 seed I actually like playing Michigan on Saturday. A loss in the BT championship does nothing except add wear and tear for no reason.
Michigan game would be good but I still think if we put it together we CAN beat them. As far as Wisky goes, we should not fear them and SHOULD beat them.

They generally increase as the event approaches. The fans of the bottom rung teams haven’t bought that many tickets to begin with so there won’t be many for those losing teams to sell. You’ll only see a decrease if a team like Wisconsin is upset in its first game. But more than likely the Friday prices will rise.

Mostly good outcomes here, assuming we face wisconsin.

1. We get another crack at trying to stop a team with quick penetrating guards before the NCAAT and avenge a prior loss.
2. If we win, another Q1 win and a chance for a marquee/confidence building win vs Michigan.
3. If we lose, we get an extra day to heal up/get over sicknesses etc.

Only bad outcome is if we get boat raced by 20. And unfortunately the way we’ve been playing this feels like a 20 point loss. We can’t stop any dribble penetration at all and even without Winter Wisconsin’s bigs have been on fire (8-13 against Purdue). If we can’t break out of our shooting funk I don’t see us making enough shots to keep up.

Hopefully a few more days of rest helps.

a 20-point loss?!

Pregame thread just wouldn't be complete without at least one "feels like a 20 point loss" comment
