We should elect to wear Navy Flyin’ Illini in the postseason. Haven’t lost in it since the UConn game in November, and it gave us the USC beat down the last time it was worn.

Needs to be the choice Friday.
Gonna be the orange or whites the first game, but maybe against Mich if we win!

He is iffy for this week per Gard, don't have the quote in front of me but it didn't sound like he was a go

They also have Janicki out for at least this week (reserve guard averages 17 mpg)

New article...looks like Winter is likely a 'Go'.

Says he’s likely a go for the NCAAT… not BTT
Ok? And like I said still a lot of word play in there for the BTT. Never said he wasn't a go for NCAAT. Some of you guys love to think you 'got' somebody. You didn't.

I read it wrong. He may be out still like you mentioned. I glanced over the NCAA part and saw tournament and wrongly assumed he would be talking about BTT in an article that came out an hour ago.
No problem. It's all good.

Do you say that because we are the higher seed or for another reason? If the latter, I think we actually get to pick whatever we want of our three colors, and the lower seed just has to deal. As an example, Purdue wore black at home vs. Wisconsin this past weekend, and instead of wearing their away red (which would have contrasted just fine), Wisconsin elected to wear white as the away team. So we certainly could wear navy on Friday if we wanted to!

I trust that the DIA is organized enough to do some laundry each night, lol.

Because we are the higher seed. We mostly wear the whites as the "home team", especially in the tourney.

Anywhere near United Center to grab some food or drinks in between sessions? Asking for a friend.

Gang, this is a REALLY good basketball team and that hasn’t changed one iota. As @NarrowJ said in that fantastic post, the thing that has happened the last 2-3 weeks is we aren’t making WIDE OPEN shots like we were for most of the season. We are getting pretty much whatever looks we want. The ball movement, for the most part, has been really good. Have to knock down a higher percentage of those clean looks. It really is that simple.

The encouraging thing for me is that despite the struggles from deep we are finding ways to keep the scoreboard moving. Getting inside with penetration, hard cuts to the basket, free throws, etc.

We were 5-24 against Maryland from 3 and still scored 78 points.
We were 10-36 against Oregon and scored 80.
There are lots of examples like this throughout the season.

We have been held below 70 points ONCE the entire season. Have to get Tomi and Keaton going again.

Which wide open shots are you referring to? The numbers and the play simply do not support what you are saying

We took 24 three pt shots against Maryland - we average 32. We made 5 - We average 11. Why the dropoff in the Maryland game? Because Maryland guarded the 3pt shot.

Maryland took 26 two point shots and made 15 - we normally allow 17.5 two point shots and the opposition makes 47.5%

We had 12 offensive rebounds against Maryland - we average 13.

We took 31 shots from 2pt range - we average 17.

We allowed 11 offensive rebounds - we average 10.

We had 21 defensive rebounds - we average 27.

The difference in score from our norm:

(1) Andre Mills 10 - 18 from 2 pt range and 8-10 from line (Maryland as a team was 11-15 in FTs)

(2) We only took 24 three point shots.

We win by exploiting match ups offensively and defensively. That determines number of minutes. None of the 8 players played fewer than 19 minutes and Andre, Keaton, Hummer, Z and Mirk were the 5 on the floor down the stretch.

No one player is going to determine the outcome of these games unless its something extra - ordinary. But this "Tomi - Keaton" analysis is bogus. Go back and look at how many times Maryland doubled Wagler. You have to play the game and the match ups in front of you. That doesn't mean that anyone is struggling.

The 4 seed has had a rough go in the BTT the past few years. Haven't won a game since 2019. This is also Wisconsin's 3rd straight year as the 5 seed and they've lost in the final the past 2 years.

2025 - UCLA loses to #5 Wisconsin
2024 - Northwestern loses to #5 Wisconsin
2023 - MSU loses to #13 tOSU
2022 - Rutgers loses to #5 Iowa
2021 - Purdue loses to #5 tOSU
2020 - Covid
2019 - #4 Wisconsin wins

I didn't believe in the theory that teams with a bye are sometimes at a disadvantage, but maybe I do now. Hopefully we can break the trend.

Are we sure these are truly upsets?

2025 — Wisconsin was the higher seeded team in the tournament. UCLA was a 7; Wisconsin was a 3.

2024 — Wisconsin was the higher seeded team in the tournament. Northwestern was a 8; Wisconsin was a 5.

2023 — exception. That was a terrible OSU team.

2022 — Iowa was a 5 seed. Rutgers lost in the first four.

2021 — OSU was a 2 seed. Purdue was a 4 seed.

This year Illinois will be seeded higher than Wisconsin, win or loss.

Best case is that Illinois wins 3 games this weekend and takes the Big Ten Tourney. Screw the rest, if we beat Wisconsin, Michigan, and MSU in three days, the fear we aren't playing our best goes away.

Will that happen? Probably not. But you'd be crazy to root against it for the extra day or two of rest.

I am perfectly OK with winning one game this weekend. It is two weekends from now that interests me more.
