This is a game where we need to get points in the paint. Happ isn't a good rim defender. And defensively we have different guys to put on Happ and Hayes. If Groce gets it right and makes the right adjustments then we can win.

Happ is a really smart defender (far moreso than anyone on our roster). Thus how he is averaging 2 steals per game this season and averaged 1.8 as a true freshman. Kid is good, don't underestimate him. He will be easily the best big on the floor.

Wisco by 17, Bronson will get at least 3 wide open looks that make me want to :frustrated:

General Question for going to games at State Farm Center:

Can you take closed water bottles in to the game or do you have to purchase once inside the building?

This Illinois team is due to win a game they have no business winning. Not getting my hopes up, but a W wouldn't shock me.

Path to the tournament:

Wisconsin - W
Minnesota - W
@ Northwestern - L
Penn St - W
@ Iowa - W
Northwestern - W
@ Nebraska - W
Michigan St - L
@ Rutgers - W

10-8 regular season; win 2 in the BTT; 22-12 going into the NCAA tourney as a #10 seed. It's going to be epic!

I think this is more realistic:

Wisconsin - L
Minnesota - W
@ Northwestern - L
Penn St - W
@ Iowa - L
Northwestern - L
@ Nebraska - L
Michigan St - W
@ Rutgers - W

Rutgers on the road could easily be a loss too...

I know we've been decent at home, but I don't see us matching up with Michigan State well at all

I could easily see the wheels coming off the ladder after a serious beatdown @NW. If we lose 2 of the next three, any dreams of the dance should be completely dashed and the total lack of leadership sends us into a smoking hole.

If we decide to actually play team basketball, this season could be salvaged. Haven't seen any signs that we have any interest in doing that, however.

Illinois comes out and gets a ~8 point lead as Johnny Nine Lives looks like he's going to enact his name sake and get a quality win.

Wisconsin hits some shots with around 3 mins left in the half, Tate is in the ball game so Illinois doesn't score, Wisconsin goes in the locker room up 3 at half.

Wisconsin scores 10 unanswered to open the half and the games over before the 16 min timeout.

Wisconsin 80 - Illinois 66

My prediction is we play our best defensive and offensive game of the year. We come out with our pants on fire and surprise everyone and again make people think, "Hey, we may have a chance to squeak into the tournament,".......but Koenig hits a buzzer beating, game winning three with us up by two, just to add another gut punch to Illinois basketball and their fans.

Wisconsin-74
Illinois-73

Team basketball, assuming we share the same vision of that, would require a major scheme change on offense that takes a load off of the PG and puts it into ball movement, and that does not seem likely. I do not envision our defense all of a sudden being salvageable.

Groce previews Wisconsin

Groce: Emotion is an interesting thing. Live didn't want to get behind like we did. Watching film, wasn't as bad as I thought.

Groce: Thought PSU played really well in the 1st half. We were better in the 2nd half. Defended a little better. Shots went in.

Groce: Thought we had some easy ones in the 1st half and didn't make enough of 'em.

Groce: In terms of Wisconsin, they're a great challenge. Make very few mistakes. Very discipline. Played a lot of games together.

Groce: Offensively, they have multiple weapons. Can hurt you inside like they usually can do. And they can shoot it too.

Groce: Great thing about our league is you don't digest the last game too much. Get ready to get back out there.

Groce: I am proud of the way our guys competed and battled in the 2nd half. More focused about making less mistakes overall.

Groce: This game is important because it's the next one. They're all the same.

Groce: Talked a lot about late-game execution the last two days. Turnovers hurt us on Saturday.

The thing with that ladder is....since the outcome of the PSU game was an "L" we're starting back at the bottom, not halfway up.

I'll be in the basketball mecca of Plymouth MA tomorrow night, so doubtful I'll be able to witness this likely beatdown. I'll Tivo it just in case.

You know that's what I try to mention but I guess it stems from the Kam Taylor/Alando Tucker era for them. They've dominated us since like '06. Sucks even more because obviously Kaminsky was an Illinois kid but same goes for Tucker (Lyons I believe).

Actually, Lockport HS. We went to high school together and I played intramural bball against him a few times. Really good guy...except when he was busy dunking on me!

I went to college with Wisconsin assistant coach Lamont Paris, and then we worked together for a year at the College of Wooster, we used to play noontime hoops together. He would only use his left hand. Amazing DIII player. He's a great guy, and a great up-and-coming coach.
