reposting with corrections...in Tony Petersen's defense... we don't have any playmakers on O outside of I. Will, Duece and Josh.. the problem with 2 of those is you need a QB to throw them the ball.. (and those 2 are past QBs) this issue with needed a QB to throw the ball.. is that we need a line to protect.. not sure what has happened.. but our O Line looks lost on 90% of the past plays...
In Tony Petersen's defense: We don't have any playmakers on O outside of I. Will, Deuce and Josh. The problem with two of those is that they need a QB to throw them the ball, ironically they are both converted wide receivers from, yep you guessed it, QB.
The issue with needing a QB to throw the ball is that we need a line to protect that QB and give him time to make a good decision. Not sure what has happened this year but our O Line looks lost on 90% of the pass plays, strong, for the most part, in the run game. But our pass blocking is leaving a lot to be desired.
A pedigreed coaching staff should know not to punt on fourth and short on the opponent’s 34 yard line. That's the opposite of a hot take, amigo. Casual fans are going to be streaming out the doors because they think a pedigreed coaching staff should have turned this around by week 3 (4 for us) and don't realize that the kind of sustained success most programs have take a decade or more to build. And we're a solid 2 decades behind.
Yeah, you don't net enough to make punting worth it. Gotta go for points there.A pedigreed coaching staff should know not to punt on fourth and short on the opponent’s 34 yard line.
That is not a coaching staff decision. That is a BB decision.A pedigreed coaching staff should know not to punt on fourth and short on the opponent’s 34 yard line.
That's all fine but if you know O'Connell looks scattered, why choose to put no pressure on him on the last drive? Ask Graham Mertz how easy it is to pass when there's no rush. Or ask Brandon Peters how much harder it is to pass when there is one.
Fine if you want to rely on your defense but don't turn around and handicap them when you choose to give the other team the ball.
And for the record, it's not fine. It was a stupid decision this week and it was a stupid decision last week.
Considering that it is 100% BB’s fault, I will! You guys can blame BB or TP all you want
I wanted him to go for it. However in a defensive low scoring game and an awesome punter I see the logic. If you don’t get it on 4th down Purdue needs 30 yards to kick a field goalThat is not a coaching staff decision. That is a BB decision.
Currently our SOS is 39th. UTSA beat Memphis today who beat an SEC opponent last week. We should have beaten Purdue. We have had a weak schedule, and we are 1-4. Let me repeat that, we have had a weak schedule, and we are 1-4. We are 2 plays from being 3-2, and I primarily have to put that on some questionable play calls down the stretch of both the Maryland and Purdue games. The play callers are going to need to show improvement in stressful situations. Stop playing to lose, and go for it on 4th and 1 or 4th and 2. Growing up, I watched Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, and Tom Osborne go for it in stressful situations. You're better off for it in the long run, even if you don't get it every time.
McCray had over 100 yards today... 1st start, 1st 100+ yard game...I have less confidence in BB now after he was asked the question about changing QB's in the game and he said no as he was shaking his head...
that answer caused me to shake my head
all the answers about what if you don't make it shows me a culture building of meekness and no confidence in our offense.
oh wait , now I get it...b/c I have zero confidence in BP....zero..........................
McCray is a stud....a good coach will use their stud to win games , not leave him on the sidelines for 40 % of the game
how many yards did McCray have rushing today ? a bunch....i haven't heard exact # yet....i'm to pissed off at bb to look it up....
wonder if we punt next week on Charlotte's 10 yd line on 4th and 1 ?
McCray seemed to keep taking himself out of the game because he was winded. Normally I would blame the coaching staff for a lack of conditioning but considering he's a true freshman without much time in the program I'll give them a pass. I can't help but think we win this game if chase Brown is healthy because there was a big drop off after McCray at RB.I have less confidence in BB now after he was asked the question about changing QB's in the game and he said no as he was shaking his head...

Don’t coaches pick who plays though? Not following this logicYou guys can blame BB or TP all you want, but these last 2 loses in my opinion are BP fault you can't be a 30yr old 12yr senior and have the football IQ and accuracy of a youth league QB. He owes his teammates an apology.
I feel there is a bit of drop off in RB after McCray. However, I also think they are trying to use different style running backs for the same plays. Instead of trying to get Love outside to use his speed, they were trying use him as a power back like McCray.McCray seemed to keep taking himself out of the game because he was winded.
