Purdue 34, Illinois 31 OT POSTGAME

The team that makes mistakes is the losing team. No excuse for that number of penalties. Have them run stairs all night and if they don't like it.

This really was an abhorrent performance by the players and coaches. Time to start wholesale benching of these idiots with the personal foul penalties. You can't win with them anyway. These players have absolutely no respect for Smith obviously. And apparently Smith doesn't automatically generate respect like so many say. I can quit pretending that the defense is any good. Our three "NFL" d-lineman are way overrated. This whole roster needs to be cleansed of all these Beckman recruits. I also question what our "great" coordinators are doing. No chance to win any more this year, maybe four wins over next three years.

aside from the tough kick, what a joke. The kick was tough, I feel for the kid. But man, those penalties were AWFUL. The targeting call on Phillips was pathetic, especially coming from our senior. These guys need to be running stairs all day on Sunday for their errors. I thought when Purdue was playing their Fightsong after the win, I hope the coaching staff was listening. This is how deep the hole we are in. They have their work cut out for them. Beckman was the worst thing that ever happened to Illinois Football.

C'mon... very high chances we win more over the next three years.

I think the Lovie "effect" and euphoria generated more expectations than this team deserved. The talent is not there, it is pretty obvious. But expecting four wins over the next 3 years is going the other direction. This program will get better, but it is not a quick fix.

Another painful loss. I should probably be more upset about this loss than I am, but obviously we're not going to get anywhere close to a bowl game or anything. We are going to lose a lot more games and probably lose big.

The defense was terrible. The offense regrouped under Crouch but it's obvious that they weren't prepared for him at all.

One great thing about the renovation is that I won't have the opposing team's band right in front of me. They weren't disrespectful, like the 2013 Wisconsin band was, but it's like rubbing salt into my wounds watching them celebrate right in front of me.

I was very annoyed when I posted, but I dont see now who they can beat this year, and many are predicting one or two wins next year. Now Purdue is talking about becoming bowl eligible for cripes sake.

"These idiots" are 18-23 year old kids. Football is a game of emotion and when emotions are high, dumb mistakes can be made.

The players clearly respect Lovie because they are playing harder than I've seen in the past few year. It will take some time to get these guys to play hard but under control, but it will happen.

Let's just embrace the suck for another 2-3 years. I'll watch another game when we can beat the "worst team in the BIG". Oh wait, we just did that - we beat ourselves today.

I swear they could hire friggin Bill Belichick for $10 million a year, and this team would figure out a way to lose.

Can't get Lovie's recruits here soon enough. No depth, poor football IQ, poor fundamentals tend to take their toll.

I have to go back to the very first drive of the game for Illinois. Foster cuts to his right it's a TD and maybe we win by 4. Little things like that really cost us today.

There was lots of individual plays here and there but we got run over by a bad rushing team. Our Dline got owned and that was ballgame.

I understand you are upset, but I think your own emotions got the best of you, making some statements criticizing players that you will come to regret. You criticize them for not controlling emotions, then you can't control your own emotions. :)

It is not a quick fix. But we will win more than 4 games over the next 3 years. I am not sure what Purdue going to a bowl game has to do with it, unless you were expecting that we go as well. I did not.

You are a voice of reason . . . .

Unfortunately, you are injecting logic into an emotional situation, which defies logic ;)

I like some of the things I saw today, and Crouch and the response of the offense after Wes went out, is one of them. However, I let my emotions believe that we could win a few games this year that might just let us become bowl-eligible. I was wrong. I will check out emotionally for the next 2-3 years until I see the product that Lovie will put on the field. The good Lord willing, and the creek don't rise . . .

Oh, and our defense . . . .today, wasn't one. They beat us like red-headed step children at the line of scrimmage. If they had a top notch QB, I think they beat us by 50 . . . . so many missed passes, drops on their part. It could have been MUCH worse.

"Beckmans recruits" won 5 games and beat purdue 48-14 last year. They won 6 games and went bowling the year before. you people need to stop putting the blame for this crap defense on Beckman. this coaching staff is under performing

Hmmmm . . . we can agree to disagree. We are WAY short on talent. And smarts. Which stats stand out?

While we did pretty well running the ball for 315 yards and 6.8 ypc, we also gave up 231, and 5.6 ypc. At home. Against the weakest team in the BIG. Against a team that lost 50 to FREAKIN 7 against MARYLAND last week.

And our 12 penalties for 125 yards was outstanding too!
