Purdue 84, Illinois 68 Postgame

That sucked. I find Purdue to be just as dislikable as Indiana and Iowa.

However there isn't a harder game left on the schedule in the regular season. Won't be easy, but I could be convinced we win out.

Purdue's weakness is against the press. We don't press and they are brutal to defend in the half court.
100%. We got a free look at how our half-court D can stack up against a juggernaut at home.

It didn't go that well, and then we shot all bricks to their 75% for 1/4 of an 80-point game. Didn't work. Good grinding stone, and the players' pride will survive. (Let's be honest... they can take it way better than we can.)

The other thing i noticed is too many shots early in the shot clock in the 2nd half, just as Kofi and the other guys are coming down the court. Then its an easy rebound for Purdont and Ivey is the best in transition attacking the basket, while our guys are just trying to get back on defense. With Kofi this is a half court team with low tempo offense, not run N gun like Brad probably would run if he didn't have Kofi.

I can live with this one…though its disappointing. But…I worry that Maryland loss is going to loom large in a couple weeks because we couldn’t split with Purdue.
That was an Edey elbow/Purdue hangover loss - no concussions tis time, please.

There was a kill sequence in the second half where we went 0-3 on open 3s... Would've taken us down to an 8 point gap at point.
We just had an uncharacteristically bad shooting night from outside against a team uniquely able to deal with Kofi.
Won't happen next time.

My 4 things to success pregame were

1. Limit stefanovic to less than 3 threes ✅
2. Trevion scores less than 10/5r ✅
3. Rebound better ❌
4. Make Ivey score at the line only ❌.

Number four turned out to be really big one. He killed us. Man that must be how it feels to play us sometimes, you can plug 3-4 holes but someone will step up and have an amazing night. Sigh…

Great 1st half effort. Lid on the basket 🧺 I’m the second but also credit their defense. Let’s get the next one boys

I can see us losing at Rutgers and possibly at Michigan State but I can see a Purdue losing at Michigan and at Wisconsin so I think it will come down to whoever is more hungry. I think Wisconsin has the easier schedule at the end so they may win out but who knows.

Not sure where my original post went, but oh well....Seems like we have wilted a bit when facing truly elite teams this year (Arizona, Purdue - although I agree I thought the officials won the first game for Purdue). We just don't quite yet have that ability to stop a run or take away scoring opportunities of an ultra - talented team with length. BUT, I still believe we can gel and get to the second weekend of the tournament - though it will certainly not be easy - where anything can happen. The better team won tonight, but the best regular season team doesn't always win the last game of the year (see 2005 or 1989).

Pretty sure B1G regular season champ is only based on straight record and head to head does not matter. That only matters for tourney seeding.
I don't see any losses clearly in Purdue's future. We effectively lost 2 games tonight seeking B10 championship (our loss and their victory).

They did what they wanted to and stopped us from doing what we wanted to. That's the entire game.

Fortunately, Trent seems okay. I would rather lose this game and have Trent be okay than win and lose Trent for the rest of the season.
