Purdue 91, Illinois 68 POSTGAME

Can someone explain what offense we are running or trying to run? All I see is a big come up to give a pick which fails because he takes off too early but since there was no contact, the defenders stay on their guys. The pg barely moves, and sometimes, he will pass it around several times which typically ends up in some forced shot and miss. Our defense is simply atrocious, and I can't tell if it's due to lack of athleticism or lack of help defense or just not being aware, which is sad because I think our players are fairly talented. Are they just not as good as I think they are (or could be) or are they not being utilized how they should?

I think the offensive scheme is to isolate one offensive player on three defenders.

just effin miserable. Don't understand why Jordan and DJ did not get in when we hit -24. At least TJL played most of the game. Getting to Bears level of indifference.

Tough times to be a fan. We are on the bubble but given how the team has looked in all 3 road games and a lack of identity, I think we all see that this isn't a tournament team. I feel most bad for the kids. Individually, I think we have more than enough talent to be a tournament team. But collectively, this coaching staff has not figured out how to best utilize said talent.

Also, if we can't defend, we do not win. We are not Indiana. This is an indictment on the coaching staff.

Is anyone else listening to Groce's post game show on the radio? It doesn't sound like they lost if you heard him speak.

Hopefully Dan will post the link to this for those of us out of earshot.

Heard the postgame, we played close to even after falling behind by two TDs in the 1st five minutes. Not sure wht he is going to say, he tries to be positive, but there are only negatives.

For the game, I thought Mav came to play. He did what he could with the 2 big men but was abused at times by them as well which was to be expected. I liked the run Te'Jon got in the 2nd half. He drew multiple fouls and had a lay-up along with another drive that got blocked. I think that whoever coaches Te'Jon, the future is bright for him. I just hope he improves on his free throw shooting. I think Finke gets lost in all of this. He's been shooting the ball real well in the last few games and it's like our team doesn't look to get him more shots. Instead, all the shots seem to go to JCL. I like JCL and he's a good kid, but sometimes, you have to know when to stop shooting and let others get involved if you are on a cold streak. You aren't doing the team any favors. That falls on Groce for giving him the green light to shoot often.

Injuries and bad transfers/recruiting misses have created a really poorly constructed roster. There are critical deficiencies in what we're able to put on the court throughout an entire game that get totally exposed by the better teams. We're a very defendable team because there isn't much on the roster to put pressure on defenses when shots aren't falling.

At the end of the day, the coach is responsible. We can't continue offering up excuses for such a highly paid position.

Not even sure where to start. You can not continually give up threes like we do and compete. You can't let the opposing team drive to the basket unimpeded like we do and compete. You can't miss half your free throws and compete. You can't have a significant portion of your team be unable to make a basket and compete. This roster is not well constructed. This appears to be both a talent and coaching issue. The bottom line is that it is on Groce's shoulders in year 5. Barring a miracle turnaround, it is time to light up the dumpster.
