Rutgers 72, Illinois 57 POSTGAME
I have really mixed feelings on all the threes. Sort of feels like when Groce just conceded any offensive rebound? Sort of like Underwood just conceded the inside game. Giorgi was scoring early on the block. One thing for certain, the least amount of time Kofi and Giorgi spend together the better. We can get offense from GB on the block, but the post defense really suffers with him in and no Kofi.
Its not good coaching. The offensive ans defensive game plan today was D or F level. The effort was there which Underwood absolutely gets credit for. But his coaching today sucked at best. Its okay to criticize him. He's been great all year. Today... he was very very bad.
This went how I figured. I think it went how most of us figured. Kept it close for most of the game, then it became unhinged. Where Ayo usually keeps the situation calm, it turned into panic mode and up went the threes.
Michigan did it with Duncan Robinson and he is starting for the Miami Heat. Hutch was a 44% 3 point shooter as a 6'6'' freshman guard and 40% last year hittting 9 in one game and had several strong programs wanting him Dont start hating on players before they even play. There are good players that mature later than other s and these guys had offers from top programs other than us for a reason. IMO they may be better than some we already have or why take them. We could certainly use the length and shooting on our squad. Rutgers has a Stoney Brook transfer that hurt us today for god sake.

Yeah, if only Underwood could have made more than 6 shots in the second half........
Part of his job is putting players in position to score. How many shots did we get inside 10 feet that 2nd half. Not many at all.
Given what they had to play with, what were you hoping to see. We were undersized at literally every position but one. Our guards couldn't get a shot off on a dribble drive, when we did get open looks, we missed...guys like Jones and Underwood were forced into the game and a guy like Feliz was being asked to do more than he's capable of.
There's only so much the coach can do with the ink and a dry erase board to overcome that.
I think @ Purdue was their best win with winning @ Wisconsin being right there. They beat this same Rutgers team already. After PSU, the softest part of their schedule is on deck. Have to win the games we're supposed to. If we do.....we're fine.
The put back vs MSU and the blown opportunity @ Iowa changed the feel of today's game. Thinking we were going to go into Rutgers, who's undefeated at home, without Ayo and handle them was wishful thinking at best.
Let's just get past PSU(which might be rougher), then handle our business.
This was going to be a brutally difficult game to begin with and I thought the team fought pretty darn hard. There is no shame in losing at Rutgers right now, and when Harper Jr goes unconscious from 3, it's gonna be a rough night. They'll be ok.

To much useless side to side handoff/passes to start our half court offense. IMO for this team to be good we have to play small and run like previous seasons, then mix in our bigger lineup with Kofi and Giorgi. Trents not good when the game slows down and we need him knocking down shots
We went 11-33 from two and Rutgers blocked 9 of those 22 misses. They’re a long, difficult, disruptive, good team that has trouble putting the ball in the basket. When they get five threes from a sub-30% shooter like Harper, they’re a very difficult team to beat, and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.
Not good enough. We had the advantage on the block and didnt capitalize on it. All year long we have found multiple ways to games. Now because we dont have Ayo we should expect to get blown out against Rutgers? Im not buying it
I’d like to see us press once in a while. Not just last minutes of game when we are down. And I don’t mean down 15 or more like today’s last few minutes. But how bout at the 5 minute mark when it was getting away from us? Or in the first half for a different look?
GB could get a shot or pass out of the double. He got good looks and was flopped on once which was crap. He didnt take any three s but we ignored what i think probably was our best option today and that is on BU. I also know we were short but no way should his son have been in at all and certainly not to be burned 3 straight times. Kipper could have come in and done just fine with 2 other guards in the line up. Not BUs best day imo.
Pump the brakes there river boy. No body is hating. Both are low level transfers and that is fact at this moment. For your one example there are 500 that don’t work out. Learn to read context also, I said ”we will see” that is far from hating on anybody before they play?
He can't be like a puppy. Taking quick 3s aand jumping around. The kid has potential and a high ceiling. He needs more tick. But at the same time he can't make the mistakes that keep him out of the game. Underwood needs to work on that.
GB and Kofi were 7 for 16 and got the the line from 2, It was not hard to get GB the ball. Your right though for the little guys those are tough shots. Thats the coaches job to make sure the right guys get the ball right?

Agreed. At Penn State will be another loss, but after that, we just have to figure out a way to get in the tourney, by winning home games. At Rutgers isn't a bad loss this year; that bad losses were the home defeats to Maryland and MSU. Needed at least one of those.
Not sure what you are referring to. I dont care where are player is from if he has offers like Hutch had when he chose us. He is 6'6'' and a very very good shooter from a small school with very solid offers. , So was Duncan Robinson i dont know how those are bad examples or why you wouldnt want a player other quality power 5 schools want badly. Id argue that they are exactly what we need now.

Not really. Games are fluid and the players have to play.
I think there's a tendency to confuse coaching vs execution error. I'm sure BU didn't have 30 threes lined up in his game plan. I'm confident that the plan was to work inside out. The guards have to execute that. Interior passing has been an issue all year. Getting to the basket has not. That's been a strength. Rutgers has big, long, athletic guards with very active hands.
The guards, less Ayo, got outplayed badly. I think it's really that easy. Rutgers took us out of everything we "wanted" to do.
Sometimes.....it's just a kudos and a hat tip to the other guy.
Don’t disagree just that there are many more examples of low level transfers that dont pan out. All I really care about is, hating on anybody is far from what I said, Both will get a chance, and I hope your correct never seen either play. I do know Curbello and Miller are very HIGH level recruits coming from HS. Anyways let’s just hope your right on this one.

We got the ball to them in the 1st half and not the second. Kofi got offensive rebounds in the 1st not in the 2nd. Giorgi no touches in the paint in the 2nd except for the flop on Rutgers. Too many 3’s in the 2nd half by the guards and forced shots in the paint. Game plan wasn’t the problem execution was got away from it in the 2nd half. Unfortunately Kofi plays like a freshman a lot lately
