The chucking high volume of 3s with a bad shooting team reminds me of a stubbornness I saw out of Brad during his first 2 seasons as coach. He was committed to running a ball pressure/create turnovers defense then that was never going to work. Once he got Kofi, he changed it.

Not sure what will make him change the offense. But it def needs to change. Hummer, Riley, Boswell aren’t 40% bombers. You can’t win this way.

Beginning with the USC loss at home on Jan. 11, the Illini have gone 3-5.

Of the 8 games remaining that same 3 wins, 5 losses result looks very possible. If not probable.
Who would have thought that a month ago after the 32-point win at Oregon, and the 39-point win vs. Penn State?

Of course, it wouldn't shock me if they run the table with 8 straight wins. With this team, who knows?

I understand the youth argument. But the Duke Bluedevils have done pretty well (is it now 2 decades or more) with one and doners. Much of the success came before the free agency in college basketball. Kentucky under Calipari would be another example.

I respect your opinion a lot but disagree here. I'd take Dain over Ben esp with the bricks he's been tossing up. Ben at small 5 is terrible. Playing Morez and Tomislav is ideal but lack of depth and foul trouble you get what has been happening. Dain wouldn't have been a stop gap imo

And UCLA handled MSU last night. Izzo said something to the effect that the game was the most physical Big 10 game he had coached in quite some time.

I am with you. I saw some bad basketball in the late 60's and early 70's. But it was not Jekyl and Hyde. They were not very good.

It’s so frustrating watching it happen game after game and we never seem to make any adjustments. That’s all they did the last 6 minutes to bury us tonight. Throw in an incompetent ref crew and it’s a free throw parade
Yeah it sucks but we really did need to adjust to the refs and not just the opponent. Starting at the 10:30 mark, Rutgers hit those dagger threes and got to the line 4 times and by 6:30, our lead is gone and we are in foul trouble. Absolutely atrocious reffing the final ten minutes; we literally could not get a stop because EVERY missed shot was whistled. But can’t put yourself in that situation - should have been up way more than three points when the ref show started and you can’t continue to let the guy who is getting every favorable whistle get downhill off a ball screen.

I’m gonna get roasted for this but if KJ plays his way out of the first round and it costs us DGL next year, that will be almost as bad as when Tracey Abrams got hurt and it cost us Juwan Evans.

I’ve got 0 idea why we suck against mediocre teams but we seem to. Maybe we make it to the final four, or lose the first round of the NIT

You're right ... I don't think Brad would do any better ... Brad is more CEO than X&O ...

I want two ELITE X&O coaches ... One on offense and one on defense ... We can afford it ... Now go find them ... I don't care where they come from ...

Prefer Stephen Gentry & Luke Yaklich but I am not opposed to others ...
You think Gentry would come back for the right price? I'm assuming Yaklich is available.

Just a very inexperienced team. No upperclassmen leadership.

As fans, just go with the flow.

As for the coaching staff, make adjustments and correct things. If not, we should wish to go on a heater and make a run.

Wow, his answer to us taking 15+ 3's in 1st half vs. not driving to the rim more. Is Lala land. He's frustrated, as we all are my goodness. Riley pulling up from 27ft 4x is hilarious. Hey, 1 of them went in and he got to the line 1x.. oh well, I'm looking forward to the spring football game.

Yaklich makes too much sense as a defensive coordinator. He functioned as that under Beilein at Michigan. He's a semi local guy that coached in Joliet and in-state at ISU and UIC and he was also an assistant at Texas to Shake. I don't understand why there wasn't a bigger push to sign him before this season to be honest.

Gentry would be a great hire but I don't know why he would leave Spokane which is a pretty gorgeous area to raise a family.

Could we poach Baker Dunleavy from Villanova where he's their GM? Or pay a smaller school head coach like Matt Langel more to come be an assistant?

32 ish games this season and BU gets paid $156,000 per game. That is only $4000 per minute of game time. With our 6 points at the 10 min mark, that lead to $6666 worth of salary payment for each single point.

Here we go again.

Lack of on court leadership. Plain and simple. When the pressure is on we crack like a pistachio.
That is due to not going through the fires together. As the common reframe here we are a new team with a lot of diverse pieces. If we get into the dance I think we will fare better than in the road games. We have to win 2 out of 3 of Mich, Mich St. and the Boilers

I agree mostly, but I'd put Boswell in the category of "athletic and explosive." He's very good at attacking the rim and finishing.
