Why? Are their sphincters tighter playing for Brad?

I don’t recall to many step back, off the dribble, or errant shots from Guerrier. Quality over quantity and that starts with some sort of offensive scheme, whether that is driving the lane for kick outs, post up touches, or a set play. I’ve not seen where we can call a play and get a shot, it would be nice to have a few of those in the pocket

I don't think anyone is arguing with Brad's success, but we have the greatest collection of talent we've had in 20+ years and after a hot start, we are floundering. Unless we have TJ, or Kofi, or Ayo, we really struggle.

The main complaint of fans now is that our offense looks absolutely broken and our defense is giving up multiple back cuts every game like it's 4th grade. Who is in charge of implementing the offense? Tyler Underwood. Our scheme of shooting volume threes has continued to be our scheme even though we are absolutely terrible at it. Most of us are upset that Tyler was given such an important position regardless of his capabilities. The same goes for Hamer.

With high turnover among assistants, it seems that Brad may have issues with trusting others to run his systems and therefore has hired two guys that will do as he asks. If Brad is more CEO than X and O, then he needs to delegate. That's what Bret excels at. The problem now is that he's delegating to guys that can't fix the problems because they don't know how.

Brad has one year to get new assistants and show sustainable success before his seat gets hot. Losing 80% of your staff and roster every year isn't a recipe for success. This may be a 2 year plan like when we got TJ, but KJ is gone and Will is trending that way more every game. Morez is still on the fence. Maybe you have KB, Dra, and Tomi? That's a decent, not great base with two short guards.

Hopefully Brad sees it and gets some awesome assistants and we are back in business next season. Brad has been great for our program, but his stubbornness has continued to be his biggest weakness.
Name one person here, or media outlet member in October who stated we had the best talent on this year's team in the last 20 years of Illinois basketball???

Minnesota @ the Barn is no guarantee … Especially when I think we will be short handed …

I think we can beat Iowa … Especially at home but if we’re coming into that game on a 5 game losing streak or shoot even a 4 game losing streak … My confidence won’t be as high …
If we win 3 more games and get to 18 wins, but lose the rest…do you think that’s enough to get in the tourney with 6 Quad 1 wins?

There were posters in the summer calling this the most talented Illinois team ever. I can't point to any one sound bite in particular, but I do feel like at one point a common refrain in the media was that this was the most talent Brad has assembled at Illinois. There were posters recently who said KJ is our most talented player ever. Rez is our best freshman big ever. List probably goes on. When times are good, so is the hyperbole lol.

We have two lottery level picks.

A former 5 star pre reclass that started PG for a top team last year.

A top Euro center who can PnR and shoot 3s

Tre White who was a high level recruit and played well at USC before entering the 6th level of hell that was Louisville basketball under Payne.

A top 30 recruit in Morez that played for Team USA.

Humrichous was on draft boards as a 6'9" sniper. A 3nD role guy from Mercer.

DGL is raw but absolutely electric in his moments.

Ty redshirting as a top 50 recruit and an integral part of our Elite 8 run last year.

Pure talent and potential, this team is better than last year, easily. The problem is that last year everyone was 3-4 years older than these guys. We have 2 lottery picks and Tomi will be in the NBA at some point. This team as Juniors and Seniors would probably wreck last year's team, but not now.

This team can severely underachieve AND also be the most talented team assembled since the Flyin Illini. It comes down how you are defining talent.

Illinois, by most accounts, will have 2 players go in the first round and I wouldn't be surprised if both are in the lottery.

Tomi with 2 more years will make an ALL B1G and maybe even an All-American, I think hes that good and his absence highlighted how many things he does well. He'll probably get a cup of coffee in the NBA. 2nd round pick with a ceiling as a late 1st in a bad draft.

Morez will make an All-B1G 1st team if he stays for 4 years. Maybe an All-American 2nd or 3rd...tough to do nowadays without being a stretch big or a 7ft aircraft carrier.

It's kind of like seeing the picture of the 5 future NFL head coaches on that Washington Redskins staff 12 years ago when they were awful.

We could look back on this team, the Lottery picks, the future AAs and go..How did that team lose in the round of 32?

You said it. Posters on this board, like posters on most team boards, are prone to hyperbole. There's always a decent % of fans who drastically overrate their team's talent.

I'd also go one step further and bring up the NCAAs dirty little (not so) secret.

It's all about money. As Brad says, "The TV loves us".

Illinois gets viewership. A Euro Top 5 pick playing college ball gets eyeballs. A transcendent, yet erratic talent like Will Riley brings viewers..

CBS and by proxy the NCAA are about making money. In my opinion, Illinois is in short of an atrocious meltdown these last 8 games.

Mich St has made it 25 years in a row...there have been a few times (including last year) where they got the Tom Izzo benefit of the doubt bump.

Now if you're UNC or Indiana pissing down your leg all year...little tougher. But if the metrics and Quad 1s are there...they find a way to get you in

Just my opinion. If you believe the NCAA is altruistic and would never tip the scales...

Yet, every year seedings are seemingly adjusted for storylines so you get the Arizona-UNC game or Illinois vs Kelvin Sampson.

Yep. I remember hearing about how the team would be rolling 10-deep. And someone ..,. oh yeah, coach ... was saying it was hard to figure out who the starters would be! (To be fair, maybe he meant we don't actually have 5 starters he'd want to start).

Man the internet knife wielders are out. For the record, I'm not one of them. Team is having a tough stretch, I expect for a variety of reasons.
I'll be very disappointed if they don't get it together, but still very much a fan watching and rooting for them.

Our NET is still 14 somehow and we our top 10 in Quad 1 wins....
After our 1 and 7 record to finish our regular season, and our 1 and done in the big 10 tournament, we will be 16 & 16. No chance to get into ncaa tournament
