PIOTYR --- great analysis at the end of yesterday's Bracketology thread. Very solid!

And I agree with you. Unless we win today and sneak into the final #2 seed, our "venue odds" as a #3 seed look to be:

67% - Pittsburgh (#3 in both the South and West)
33% - Memphis (#3 in the East)

0% -Spokane (with Purdue as the #1 seed in the Midwest)

We've also already played a couple of the #14 seed candidates (Oakland and Colgate), so the odds of opening against Groce/Akron are probably hovering near 50% because it does indeed appear (across multiple prognostications) that they'll end up as one of the four 14 seeds.

3 seed in the Houston bracket per ESPN. Marquette as the 2 seed, Washington State as the 6. I’d take that right now.

Almost zero chance we play Colgate or Oakland as 3/14 as committee really tries to avoid rematches in rd 64 (and 32). It’s one of their defined principles. It’s almost certainly Akron or Morehead St.

Keep seeing us playing Akron round 1.

Storylines aside, that’s going to be a long 40 minutes for the Zips.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the tournament already seeded before today's outcome is known? With the exception of an auto-bid, which isn't on the line.

I'll take a three seed. TSJ has Final Four talent and is on fire. He had a lot to overcome this season, and he looks ready to continue his hot streak...amidst a team that dropped a 30 pt win against NW without him.

The Athletic just updated. Illinois as a 3 in Pittsburgh playing Oakland (so the same issue with a rematch as before. Houston the 1, Marquette the 2, Clemson the 6.

I’d gladly take that draw as well.

Ok, morning update

Recap my top 16 from yesterday:

1. Houston (SOUTH #1 playing in Memphis, TN)
2. Connecticut (EAST #1 playing in Brooklyn, NY)
3. Purdue (MIDWEST #1 playing in Indianapolis, IN)
4. Iowa State (WEST #1 playing in Omaha, NE)
5. North Carolina (WEST #2 playing in Charlotte, NC)
6. Tennessee (SOUTH #2 playing in Charlotte, NC)
7. Marquette (MIDWEST #2 playing in Indianapolis, IN)
8. Arizona (EAST #2 playing in Salt Lake City, UT)
9. Baylor (MIDWEST #3 playing in Omaha, NE)
10. Illinois (EAST #3 playing in Memphis, TN)
11. Creighton (SOUTH #3 playing in Pittsburgh, PA)
12. Auburn (WEST #3 playing in Pittsburgh, PA)
13. Duke (EAST #4 playing in Brooklyn, NY)
14. Alabama (MIDWEST #4 playing in Salt Lake City, UT)
15. Kansas (EAST #4 playing in Spokane, WA)
16. Wisconsin (WEST #4 playing in Spokane, WA)

To answer a question, why Wisconsin #4 over anyone else? Well, it's close between them and Kentucky, but they're still playing and have a better resume, comparable metrics. This is why they held such a high seed for so long when they played terrible for a month. It's close enough right now that I'd consider swapping them and Kentucky if they lose, but either way they'll be 4-5 in the same pod. After that, though, there's a significant dropoff in team quality in a weird way for that part of the bracket.

So anyway...

17. Kentucky (WEST #5)

After this, resumes and/or metrics drop off a cliff for teams. BYU has decent metrics, middling resume. Gonzaga has good metrics, bad resume. Saint Mary's has similarly good metrics, bad resume (better metrics than Gonzaga, worse resume than Gonzaga). San Diego State has middling metrics and resume. Florida has bad metrics, improving resume (I think they're a 5 if they win today). South Carolina has terrible metrics and a so-so resume. I'll sort out the rest in a bit.

In Palm's update this morning, he has us as the 3 seed in the South facing 14 seed Akron in the first round in Pittsburgh. The 6/11 matchup in that portion of the bracket is Saint Mary's/Grand Canyon. The other top 4 seeds in that bracket are 1 seed Houston, 2 seed Marquette, and 4 seed Auburn.
This seems fair. Lots of parody, so expect upsets. Hopefully we aren't the early upsets. But if all holds, like the match-ups.

Illinois playing a little tight. have to see the Illini from the first 10 minutes of last Purdue game. All starters especially need to look to score and not be passive.
