Smart Granddaughter college decision

#1
Smart Granddaughter applied to 7 schools and was accepted by all 7. How do I get her to Choose UIUC?

She's smart and serious about her studies. For instance, her birthday is in early May, but she wanted to wait until after finals before getting her driver's license so that she wouldn't be distracted. When we are visiting she prefers ordering food instead of going out, because going out takes her away from her studies longer.
She informed the family when she was in approximately 6th grade that she is the smartest in the family of 3 siblings, Mom, and Dad.
Her Dad started at UIUC and finished at UIC.
They live in Algonquin.
She is too cute but has been mostly ignoring boys as far as we can tell.
Her older sister is at UIC and misses home. She says that her sister should just man up and get her priorities in order.

Any advice to get her to choose UIUC? She is starting in chemistry.

Maybe the proper advice is to not try to influence her. We could drive up and see her if she chooses UIUC, which isn't really a good reason.

My advice would be to help her with her evaluation in an unbiased way. She will be happiest if she makes her own decision. She may decide later that she wants to change but that is part of that whole becoming an adult thing. Support her in any way you are invited to and she will likely exceed your expectations and be happy along the way.

And yes, it is a blessing to have chance to enjoy your granddaughter through her life choices. Just enjoy it.

I got my degree in Chemistry at UIUC back in 1989. DM me and I’ll share my email address and if your granddaughter has any questions, she can drop me a line.

Congratulations Grandpa. I guess you could use the family version of NIL.
Actually I always felt advise sought out is worth more than advice that is given but not wanted.
I'm sure she will appreciate your support the most.

You have to let her decide on her own. We took my son to visit 15 schools to get a range of options and not feel he had to go to Illinois. He ended up down to Purdue and Illinois. Luckily for a his alum and football season ticket holder dad, he made the right decision and is a freshman in computer engineering at Illinois.

Straight As and Dean List for semester one. Something I did not accomplish in my 8 semesters.
