Two things impressed me.
1. It seemed like trying to throw a pass against this Illini team was tantamount to trying to throw a ball through a mulberry tree.
2. The willingness of the Valencia team to try to throw the ball through the mulberry tree was sheer lunacy. That was a very fundamentally poor opponent.
Other than that, Shannon showed up. Sure wish he was the vocal and passionate leader this team badly needs. Good to see so many guys get a chance to show their areas they need to improve. Lots of athleticism but not much passion or focus in the first half...a lot of that due to so many guys playing and so much substitution. Underwood has another huge challenge in deciding who gets to play. Things did seem smoother with Shannon, Hawk, and Goode in the lineup. Who gets those other 5-6 spots in the rotation is a real mystery. FT shooting was horrendous as per usual. Guerrier and Hansborough have enough good motions but need to get real specific at all points and TAKE MORE TIME!! They will be shooting plenty of them and both are potential at 80%+. DD has quieted down some at the line and that is good. Ty actually made some FTs and that is huge.
Overall, with all the minutes spread around so much, the game was avg. for me. BU and staff will really deserve some accolades if this team finishes in the top 3 of the B1G...but that is the plan and it should be to win it.
As has been said, many thanks to those responsible for giving us the opportunity to see this Illini team play in early August.
