Only our least athletic bigs had bad days at the FT line combining for 8/19. Thats not all that crazy, I expected better from Guerrier

Impressive that TSJ scored 25 in 15 minutes. Shooting 10-14 helps. He needs to be consistent for us to do well this season

Others can win games but if he isn’t getting 15+ points a night we are in trouble. When his shot doesn’t go in he needs to be able draw fouls and make a living on free throws

I watched the tape - use the initial stream link/password - focusing on the new players (and Ty as PG).

Moretti: Nice passes. Seems to play in position defensively. Got beat a few times due to small size. There is some nice potential.

Harmon: Nice offensive guidance. Didn't even bother to call in the defense. Lost some of the time. Away from his man some of the time. Gave up when screened. Blown past by his man every time.

Guerrier: Seemed okay, didn't get much of a read. He passed up a "everyone give him 15' of space" wide open 3. Hard to tell much about his inside positioning or game against this competition. They were significantly shorter, lighter, and not particularly skilled.

Hansberry: Has not adjusted to the tempo of the game yet; everything was a quarter second slow. It looked like the hands were waiting for the brain to give instructions. The foot positioning and balance looked off when he was out on the perimeter. It caused issues. He could use some more fletching.

Ty: Had some issues bringing the ball up under pressure. I did not get a good read in general (as in no info.) The positioning and rebounding looked good.

Sencire: Harrising defense. Sencirely good.

Team: Did they make 30% of the free throws as a team? Ugh. This can be fixed in an hour/player if they decide winning matters more than ego.

Just like the first game, take this one with some grain of salt.

Valencia looked like a Div 3 team, although I've seen better.
Just an opponent to go against. Nothing special. Gives the guys a great opportunity to do different things, ramp up their defensive intensity, run extremely aggressive in the transition game, gives prime playing time for the new guys.
Great experience for DGL and Moretti. Love how the minutes were distributed.

I am amused by the tone of the board linked to the results of these two games.

First game is too close for comfort and all we get get is “Woe is us! We can’t shoot FT or 3s again!”

This game we win easy and no mention of 55% from the line and sub 25% from deep.

This is more calling out the doomsayers than anything as this is exhibition, early preseason stuff with guys shaking some rust off. Looking forward to a fun and hopefully successful year and happy for the scraps we get until then.

Defense and turnovers. Gotta be great in both of those areas, because this will probably be an underperforming shooting team again. We can get any shot any at anytime. Absolutely stoked that Terrence had zero turns this game

Did you come here just to take shots at our fans? I counted six posts worried about FT shooting.

Comparing box scores from first 2 games

3's % still poor
ft % still poor
Assist/TO nice improvement in game 2
Rebounds - 2 great performance

Free throw % makes me want to gouge my eyes out every year. I just do not understand why Illinois continues to be so poor in that area.
It's truly bizarre. It happens with every team in a given year here and there, but year after year for us is odd.

It's only one game........in a different country....with a different ball....after a 9 hour flight.....jetlag.....sightseeing.......back side of clock.

Well....3point % jumped all the way from 12% in the first game to 21% in the second, so I'm guessing that % will jump to about 30% in the final game.

Comparing our stats to Iowa....they shot 40% from 3 in their first game, but the lightning in the gym was probably superior and brought their own balls. Also didn't do any sightseeing in Paris and didn't suffer from jet lag...maybe they took a cruise ship to France.
