It would be a great time for Peralta to have a break out game. He hasn't looked comfortable at the plate lately, lots of swing and misses.

Late scratch. It would be nice to get a lead so he could come in to handle the bullpen. I don't think it matters who is catching Lackey, he's going to do his thing regardless. But Yadi can be a calming influence for the relievers.

Matheny said he was having trouble catching the ball yesterday. I think you have to leave him on the bench.

Tony Cruz is not a bad option as a back up. He probably starts on about a third of the teams in the league

I totally agree. Honestly, we might need hit bat too. He was hitting pretty well the last few games before the playoffs.

Love that Lackey has a nice lead before he steps on the rubber. Now he is able to be aggressive and attack those young hitters.

Terrible approaches at the plate outside of about 2 or 3 guys. not making any adjustment throughout the series.

Heyward and Piscotty the only ones that have showed up. Also, Holliday shouldn't have been playing over Pham. I know the veteran aspect, but he's done absolutely nothing for us at all this series.

+1, and losing Yadi just adds to the pain.

It's over. That second inning of the second game, IMO, turned the series around.

We had a golden opportunity to go up 2-0 in the series. Marp crushed a homer, but then Jaime and Wong had errors that were crucial. Mainly Jaime's.

no doubt, that was charity. had a bad feeling last night when Yadi went down, no other vet took charge. But a great season no less, more injuries/adversity than most teams could possibly handle. :thumb:

Looking forward to next years cardinals!
Sign Heyward
And get Piscotty in the lineup
Also think it's time for a change a shortstop

AGREED. Have Piscotty take fielding practice at first and first only.

I think the plan was always to trade Peralta after year two. Remember his contract was very front loaded, which after year 2 makes it much easier for him to be traded. Think we'll see Aledmys Diaz starting at SS next season.

Also, I know Holliday only has a few years left on his contract, but I think he needs to be traded for something. Let Pham, Heyward, and Grichuk patrol the outfield for the foreseeable future.

One more thing, we must hope and pray that Carson Kelly takes a HUGE step this year in the minors. He must improve his hitting and catching. He can be the catcher who takes over for Yadi when Yadi retires.

agreed, but who will pick up the contract on Peralta or Holliday? that would free up a lot of cash.

Peralta is only getting paid something like $8 million the next two years. Someone will take a gamble on him for his offensive skills. Just can't play him 145+ games a year, though.
