St Louis Cardinals 2027

I really hope the Cards strengthen their bullpen. Might be the most important part of an MLB team the way the game has evolved. They had 41 blown leads this year, 9th worst in baseball. By comparison, the Rays had 25 and the Brewers 28, both among the best in baseball.
Definitely could a few more reliable arms there. Although if the owners go ahead with the lockout on Dec 1 I assume that will put a stop to all the signing activity until an agreement is made. Whenever that might be.

i also wonder exactly what the rules are for a young player on the 40 man
roster but never having played in the bigs. During the lock out, could MLB
allow that guy movement to AAA (or spring training minor league camp) for
some at bats or pitching/defensive development?

Players on the 40-man fall under the MLB CBA, and therefore would be subject to the lockout and ineligible to play in the minors at all.

Interesting take on ESPN for Tarik Skubal

The Cardinals haven't signed a $100 million free agent since re-signing Matt Holliday in 2010, so this type of move would be out of character for them, but president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom has built a young roster with all kinds of payroll flexibility to make a big splash. According to Cot's Contracts, the Cardinals' estimated 2027 payroll sits at $66 million and the only long-term deal on the books is for JJ Wetherholt. Skubal is the kind of risk they can afford -- and need -- to take.

Randy Flores is the Astros new general manager

Flores, 51, was the St. Louis Cardinals Assistant General Manager of Amateur and Pro Acquisition for the past eight years.
