I missed this piece (relevant to the discussion on Shannon seeking damages)-

"Sutter said although there were no immediate plans to seek damages against anyone involved in the case, he and his colleagues were “planning to circle the wagons” and consider their options once he returns to Chicago.

“It’s something we’re going to explore,” he said."

Out of all the frivolous, irrelevant stuff in that summary string, this one was the craziest.

I like to have a clean car if it’s been a while since I’ve washed it and we’re going to take that out for a date or a night out with friends. Does that mean I’m going to commit sexual assault that night?

The entire prosecution’s case was basically a character assassination without any evidence. How anyone ruled this to be probable cause suitable for a trial is mind blowing.

What a weak argument that was...Prosecutor saying that TSJ was so entitled, took whatever he wanted whenever he wanted it, without a shred of evidence to support that thesis. In her jury instructions, the judge actually said not to consider this point since the prosecution didn't present any evidence of that being true. It appeared to me that neither Suzanne Valdez nor her Deputy DA Seiden wanted to try this weak case so they sent out this poor schlub out who was riduclously overmatched. I didn't see any footage from the first day, but this guy was a joke. At 1:52 he appears making his exceedingly weak argument.

I'll never wash my car again.

Let’s not forget that the accuser could still file a civil lawsuit, where preponderance of the evidence is all that’s needed. Now, that would be foolish, given the lack of evidence presented at the trial, and even the lower bar would be hard to get over, but if TSJ were to file a defamation suit, that could lead to a counter suit from her. He should leave well enough alone at this point, as should she. Both should just move forward.
Moving on is easier said than done, after being falsely accused of a very serious crime, hire attorneys, go to jail, defend your honor and integrity, and have your freedom and future threatened. I read another news reporting in which the accuser's attorney stated that they are considering pursuing a civil judgment. If my character was assassinated by something as heinous as a rape allegation and I knew that I were innocent, I would want justice against the accuser and to dissuade her from falsely accusing someone else.

I understand that people are arguing that the text came from a friend and not the accuser. But, the accuser didn't correct the friend, say "this is about justice," and trauma victims do not issue light comments. Aside from that, every witness, including Kansas fans, stated that he wasn't even around her.

By him being an African-American man accused of raping a European-American woman, this could have easily gone sideways. Many of you do not understand the ramifications of such allegations. I'm extremely surprised that he was acquitted, as I've seen the accused convicted during similar allegations with even less evidence.

Whether lawyers and lawmakers are able to admit it, TSJr. has suffered irreparable damage to his life and reputation that can never be repaired.

So many of the fools who were screaming obscene remarks at him while he was on the court will never hear or see...or more importantly understand....that they were committing an egregious error against him. Seems to me this is an area that is very gray and completely ignored in our society....and deserves more attention than the revenge legislation purported by many legislators caught embarrassingly red handed actually committing stupid and egregious crimes.

Many things to hate them for, but Valdez and Seiden were busy with the case against a real sex predator. Seiden even fought to postpone the Shannon case so he could stay on it.

Fought to postpone and we should all applaud that? My understanding is that a postponement aids prosecution, not the defense.

Case should've never been brought to trial, no way they are now getting kudos for trying to drag things out. Come on now.

If they can't handle more than one case at a time, then they might be even less competent than we already knew they were.

I'm not applauding them, I just want it to be clear that Seiden wanted to lose this case himself in the courtroom. Hate him for not getting the case dismissed, not for abandoning it when he saw it was a lost cause because apparently he thought it was winnable. They're stuck working on so many cases because so many prosecutors (such as the one first working on the Shannon case) have fled the office under Valdez.

Robert at IlliniBoard has a very good write-up today on the behavior of Big Ten schools fan behavior towards TSJ. The worst of the worst? Well, as I often say on this message board, it's the school that is obsessed with Illini sports. Yessir, the hillbilly sociopaths at Wisconsin. Even their band joined in the chants.

https://www.illiniboard.com/the-chants/ If this is the article you are referring to, it is pretty neutral and vanilla, without any personal commentary. Not sure if there is another one which requires a subscription. Either way, poor taste by sports commentators and rival fans to use those chants without knowing what occurred.

Probably was more about avoiding having to go through with trial while basketball season was still going on. TSJ want to be able to keep playing. They accomplished that.

More about right to a speedy trial than anything, but yes, tenfold more important for TJ with the draft approaching

This is why I feel like there needs to be a pretty strong push to get some of these major media outlets to investigate and share the actual story.

I’ve previously emailed the general editor email at The Athletic (editor@theathletic.com) asking for one of their writers to do this. I think more people need to push the issue. This was such an awful character assassination that the real story needs to be told far and wide.

To be honest, I personally think this is more important than any civil case. The real truth - that TSJ is a totally innocent man dragged through a completely bogus case against him - needs to be a major story to help get his good name back.
