Told you guys, Keats would want to stay near his recruiting base

If I am JW, I hope on a plane to Dallas ASAP to talk to SMU's coach

Relax, JW already has his coach, and it's someone he wanted more than Keatts. He'll be announced on Monday.

You guys should be able to read between the lines here and figure this out. There's no way that JW would have given Walker the assurance that he would remain as an assistant without clearing it with our new head coach first.

Keatts always made so much more sense for NC State than Illinois. If Whitman really wanted him, I assume he realized as much and would've been very aggressive to get him. I think it's clear he's aiming higher. Now we just have to wait and hope he gets his target.

Color me shocked that NC State didn't go after a more established coach. I hope Keatts has success there.

I'm getting worried that we won't have a date to the prom.

How about the Prohm?

I really don't get all the freaking out.

NC State fired Gottfried on 2/16 - Keatts announced 3/17
Miznoz fired Anderson on 3/6 - Martin announced 3/16

Groce fired 3/11

Give it time

I can appreciate this, but that being said, I think Keats would have been a slam dunk for either NCSU or Illinois.

Given how he ran Hargrave, I think he could have taken over and gotten any Chicagoland recruit he wanted, not to mention endearing himself to those of influence in the program (i.e. the Flying Illini)

He's certainly got his work cut out for him in that state, conference and with that AD.

Yeah, and then we started 12-0, and we won Maui, and we beat Gonzaga at Spokane (one of the toughest places to play), and then we got a #7 seed, and then we came a bad call away from the opportunity to reach S16, and then we realized that this team had failed miserably the previous year and had lost Leonard to the NBA, and then we realized that we were not projected to even make the tournament and Groce had overachieved.

There are many things to be critical of Groce over his entire career at UI, but claiming that people knew he was a bad coach after his first year is revisionist theory at best.

I'm talking about style of play. Just didn't like it from the very start. Not looking for an award or anything... it actually just made my misery longer than most.

Oh I definitely think he would've been great here too. I just meant from his perspective. He's from Virginia. Much closer to his comfort zone.
