To all you Martin hating geniuses, these dominos are exactly what I saw happening. He's a very likeable guy. Gene Chizik went 2-10 at Iowa State for one year before he took the helm at Auburn to a title. Players win championships before coaches do. Even coack K has deviated from his older style and deferred to the blue chippers he brings in.

There are two operative questions here:
1. Did Cuonzo steal Porter Sr. from Romar, or was the Romar firing just luck?
2. Could Porter Sr. have been swayed to Champaign, and if so, was Whitman aware of that?

I would be surprised if Porter Sr. stabbed Romar in the back like that. My guess is that Mizzou just got insanely lucky.
And went 3-9 2 years later and was fired. Great example.
And hiring an assistant who may or may not be good
He has a top 50 brother a year younger FWIW.

I agree with this, but I think many others don't think about fit. I don't think Marshall would be a good fit. If I had to choose between him and Miller, Miller is the no brainer to me. I hear Keatts is likeable but no telling how he'd be received in the midwest or let alone how his strategy would work going from the CAA to the B1G.
Here we go what? He is going to pull in Michael Porter Senior and his two sons. Plus likely Charlie Moore. I'm not saying that I wanted Martin, never have. BUT Whitman hopefully has his sights on someone that's a great hire otherwise not hiring Martin may cause us to kick ourselves in the future.
But it all happened so fast that I'm left doubting myself.
We made a mistake not hiring Cuonzo Martin. He held the keys to the #1 overall recruit in the nation in Michael Porter, and his brother Jontay who is a consensus top 40 player. With Porter, you can almost be certain we keep our recruiting class in tact. We all know Cuonzo can recruit the talent, and he is an upgrade over Groce? I don't see why we would say no to him? Unless we can somehow pull off Tony Bennett, or a miracle happens and we get Monty Williams, I think we will regret this.
Michael Porter, Jontay Porter, Charlie Moore, Mark Smith and Jeremiah Tilmon would be a beyond belief coup for a totally dead Mizzou program.
