The Illinois Coaching Staff

Most of them do have connections to BB in one way or another just not as recognizable on the surface. BB has stated in the past he doesn't hire his buddies. We have some really good football coaches on this staff that will coach the guys up. A OC/OL/TE all no nonsense hard nose coaches which we could use a little bit of. I wasn't as high on Walters initially but after listening to him speak and knowing that he was calling the D after Odom gave him the DC position I really like him. Former QB turned DB he understands back 7 play and how offenses will try and attack it. DL coach will help boost in state recruiting big time(well should at least) and he is a pretty good coach from everything I have heard. Excited for the rest of the staff to be announced.
I think you will see an immediate impact on the field. All phases of the game will be solid.

Others have echoed this thought earlier but I would really like to see one hire that has a strong recruiting background. Some of the guys already on staff can check that box but would like to see some cash spent to bring in someone who can really bring a strong recruiting track record to the staff.

Agreed. For those that are plugged into that world – who would an Orlando Antigua equivalent be. One that is realistic for us?

The DL and OL hires to me have potential to be absolute homeruns. Usually you think of the line coach as the older/experienced guys. We got 2 young guys who have a very good amount of experience and also may be our top recruiters. That's a killer combo for those positions.

Like Lovie's staff, when he hired young guys to try to boost recruiting, they all seemed to be very light in experience. These guys are more experienced than some of the older guys on the previous staff.

I was for BB from the start (you can check 🙂) because of his experience as a Power 5 coach. He knows what he’s doing. White/Mackovic were the last successful HC here and had that experience (although Mackovic was not a great recruiter). Zook came the closest recently but was just a horrible in game coach. Wonder what he would have done with the transfer portal. In the end we have a lot to be optimistic about. This is the best hire we’ve made since the Eighties Belong(ed) to the Illini!

This is a solid staff, we don't have the superstar recruiter yet, hopefully it's coming or someone we can get excited about for the recruiting angle.

This dude has plenty of coaching experience. Plus plenty of coordinating experience. I'm good with it.....still want a star recruiter.
