Mary Ellen going "big city" in Mr. Hefner's (UofI '49) art periodical is my favorite recollection of that family

We've lost three veteran back-ups who most likely would not be seeing much time outside of special teams. Not bad. Actually a positive as it opens scholarships up for incoming Freshmen and JC transfers.

Walls played a fair amount in special packages last year, generally made an effective speed rusher. Was one of the more athletic guys on the team, pretty solid on special teams. Walls is a guy we'll actually miss.

You never want to see a guy go, but transfers like this are almost always a result of a lack of playing time. Coaches must have a couple of guys ahead of him.

Weird, seeing as we haven't even hit spring practice yet with this new staff. Walls was a really solid special teamer. Bummer.

Correct, but there have been posts mentioning a switch to a traditional 4-3, so maybe they don't see Walls fitting in. Maybe they did the kid a favor by telling him this now and not during the spring. He can get his future football plan started early. Good luck to him.

Agreed. Usually transfers like this are mutually beneficial. A kid gets a chance to find a place where he can play, and the school gets another scholarship. Occasionally it is due to conflicts between a kid and coach, this may be, but most likely coaches were honest about his chances of getting on the field.

I don't think we will miss Enyenihi even a lick. Murdock, Bello, and Walls (particularly Walls) were quite useful depth though.

All in all, these transfers have not been the crisis they could've been, similar to our current recruiting class.

I agree on Walls. Bello just didn't impress me at all. As far as Murdock, in a year where our wide receiver corps would have had to be considered weak, he had 5 guys finish with more catches and yards and two of them were freshmen and another was a sophomore. With Dude K coming back, I don't think he will be missed.

Wow. This makes our starters Crawford, Watson, Svetina? With a bench of Austin Roberts and some freshmen?

Way to go team.
