We were a poor shooting team last year with little length. Loyola exposed us. Williams isn’t a quick release shooter and cannot create, Ayo was doubled and he failed to utilize others and Kofi cannot pass from the post. With all those weaknesses, Trent had very few good looks. I do not look through any color glasses, I knew our weaknesses could have gotten exposed. I am under the opinion that Miller can set his sails to other places. I do not care if its his mother or whoever. I want people here that were 100% in. But enough of that. Trent will be an asset and will have better looks next year due to our spread our offense will be. With more length and better shooters, as solid Monte was last year being a glue guy, most of the time it was 5 on 4 on offense. I hope Trent takes the entire summer and just shoots jumpers and a nice elbow jumper will help.
Pods and Goode can get it up quickly

Yes they can. Teams wont be able to cheat off players this year. May give Kofi more room to work and we will have guys who can drive. We have not really had a pure shooter since McBride and we may have three to four now. Like I said, teams were not scared of our three point shooting as it was very inconsistent and that was not our offense. Now Gentry can utilize our shooters for peak advantage. We will have a different look next year.

Kind of like Hank Aaron batting 4K more times than the Babe.

Projected homers with Hank Aaron's 12,364 at bats:
Ruth ( a pitcher for the first few years of his career) 1,051, according to Sports Features Syndicate

I'll be glad if Trent returns.

Most are sleeping on these freshmen making an impact, I'm not. These guys can flat out play and I don't buy into the "need a year with Fletch!"

I hope Trent will have his jersey retired over the next few years as he is true Illini and will be recognized as one of the greats.
I think we have strict, defined criteria for who gets their jersey retired. I think Ayo and Kofi are the only ones from the last season who qualify.

We've been super lucky with immediate impact freshman lately though, not everyone can be Ayo, Trent, Kofi, Curbelo. If Goode or Melendez can average something like a consistent 5 ppg with solid defense, I would be ecstatic.

Players selected to have their jerseys hung must have achieved any of the following criteria:
1) National Player of the Year
2) Enshrined in the National Basketball Hall of Fame
3) U.S. Olympian
4) Big Ten Player of the Year
5) Consensus First- or Second-Team All-American
6) Illinois All-Century Team Member
7) Individual whose pioneering efforts made a significant impact on Illinois and international basketball

Trent: So grateful to you for picking the Illini and then working so damn hard, converting your game and taking the changes in stride. You were such a pivotal part of this team's success. May your future be full of the rewards you so surely deserve.

Nice stat. My info in no way was directed at Trent. Just a random thought based the other post. He is by far my current favorite Illini. Kid bleeds orange & blue.
Dee Brown the 2nd.

No offense to TF (want him to get all the recognition in the world) but I feel like that's kinda crappy if those stats count towards records. If it was 3pt% or something like that then I'd have less issue, but allowing a guy significantly more opportunities to accumulate counting stats seems unfair to Cory and the other guys on that list.
FWIW, it's unlikely Trent breaks the record. He did hit 80 his sophomore year, but that's by far the most 3 pointers he's hit in a season. He hit 61 his freshman year, 51 his junior year, and 55 last year.

Edit: Would be great if he did though! Means he'd have had a monster season!

If he comes back it’d have to be record for least amount of time between declaring for the NBA draft and coming back.

What could he have possibly learned in that time?

Nothing. He knew how to generate excitement for his (likely) return for another year and executed that well. If only his dad/brother were in on the plan...

Maybe he decided that another season at Illinois, especially a good one, could help boost his pro prospects. He's not going to the NBA, and there's a big difference between Euro leagues. He has a chance to flourish offensively, not nearly as blocked. Maybe he just loves the program. Guessing all of the above.

He needs 1 more semester to be a college grad and get his degree.

Wouldn’t hurt to have an MBA on his resume too.

I loved that tweet the business college sent him.
