Just feel so bad for Ty, he is a special kid. I was hoping he was going to stick around for this next year, but thoroughly enjoyed his time in Champaign. Unlike that one guy who claimed to be an EDG and went to Indiana, Ty Rodgers was the epitome of an Every Day Guy. He showed up, worked hard, and played as hard as he could for the name on the front of the jersey. He will always be an Illini! Wishing him a quick healing process, and wishfully hoping for no more major injuries moving forward. Sucks that if the new law passes, he will be out of eligibility. They are a small sample size, but cases like Ty show why there should be injury waivers. He deserves to play. So heartbroken for Ty.

No reason to denigrate "that one guy", who went to Indiana. That guy graduated from the Gies College of Business (a top 10 public business program) in three years, and is engaged an Illini volleyball player.
That dude wasn't messing around. Definitely takes being an EDG to get all that done while contributing to an Elite 8 basketball team.

Injury issues aside, Ty Rodgers has had it pretty good. He’s earned a degree from the University of Illinois and has (presumably) earned and kept a nice chunk of NIL money along the way. Obviously he’d like to have a nice, long basketball career, but if that turns out not to be in the cards, at the very least he’s set up nicely for a future off the court in whatever he pursues.

This is really tough pill to swallow. Ty isn't the first ball player to be mired in the quicksand of a really bad injury, that reoccurs and reoccurs again, and he definitely won't be the last. I'm hoping that whatever doors outside of basketball that he wants to go through open up for him, because he's sure due some better fortune (I was about to say a break, but stopped myself, LOL).
It certainly sucks…and I’m sad for him; because he was a special dude.
But all things being relative, he DID have better fortunes than Hutch; for example.

Were it a case of some chronic issue that just can't handle the wear and tear of college level basketball that would be the prognosis, and maybe there's some truth to that, but I feel like it's almost worse than that, these seem like a series of totally separate horrible luck freak injuries.
It sucks, I'm absolutely gutted for him.
every sport (esp football ) seems to produce a player every 5-10 years that just gets snake bit with injuries . Mike Dudek, Mark Pryor & Jim McMahon come to mind right away , but there are many more .

I too feel terrible for him. this will be the third consecutive season he sits out . I just don’t think he can come back from this long rehab again and compete at the level he needs to in order to earn playing time .
if he wants to stay in the gsme , a career recruiting and coaching might be in order . if so , I hope we have a spot for him

What I do know is that through the last 2 years of injury for Ty Rodgers, he has been on the Illini bench and supporting players in games as they were on the bench, during warmups, or when they came off of the court during games. I will always be a fan of his and root for him no matter what is said on this board. I totally dislike that he has had such bad luck. From what I have observed from the stands, he is totally a team player. He made a decision to transfer from the Illini, which was more than likely the best decision he could make with the talent on the roster. I wish him the best in the future.
It's just the nature of sports. Sometimes it just happens and it is doing so constantly.
Derrick Rose, Penny Hardaway, Grant Hill, Greg Oden, and Brandon Roy. Then you have a guy like Zion or even Kawhi(can't stay on the court). Steph Curry was dangerously close to having his NBA career never even take off because of injuries. Even Deron Williams had his career cut short because of injuries.
Baseball you have more pitchers than can really be named. Carlos Rodon has put it together but basically spend the first 6 years of his career on the IL. Football is kind of the same way, especially so with running backs.
