Getting a 5th year of NIL makes sense, and after watching this game, I understand his decision. There are gonna be games where we need a stop and we won't have his defense, but if he's the 8/9 guy on this team, why waste a year.
Just curious…but do you not see how last year’s team vs this year’s team are way different and why we needed him last year to play that role, and why this year’s role might be drastically different? As a wise man once said, "players play players"
We were a top 10 team last season doing exactly that, but sure.
Better stats than Coleman as a sophomore. Coleman developed (and cashed in) over time.I could see Ty wanting to maximize his NIL, but is he really going to make a lot more money with the redshirt?
2 years of Illinois NIL
Vs.
1 year of Illinois NIL and two years at another program where he might not make as much?
I like Ty but his offensive game is so limited. He can’t shoot. He doesn’t pass particularly well. He doesn’t handle particularly well. Will other programs be beating down his door trying to get him signed?
Pretty sure it's just that Will Riley and others were going to take all his minutes. He didn't want to burn a year of eligibility playing 10 minutes per game. He'll find some place next year where he'll get starter's minutes. Can't blame him.I could see Ty wanting to maximize his NIL, but is he really going to make a lot more money with the redshirt?

Not based on how the team looked tonight. Looked like Ty would be a 10 min per game guy to me.Ty can find better than 10-12 mins per game. Low key annoyed at Underwood for doing this to him. No loyalty at all and over recruiting a program guy. Not a bench player...a program player
Some guys here wishing Groce was still our coachUnderwood’s job is to win ballgames. It’s become abundantly clear his formula is putting offensively talented firepower on the floor. It’s working.
He's still getting paid for this yea and gets an extra year so yeah he will make way more money.I could see Ty wanting to maximize his NIL, but is he really going to make a lot more money with the redshirt?

Fabulous…someone refresh my memory.
Who else were Tim’s guys?
It worked for one year in this new NIL portal era. Let's maintain cautious optimism here. This season could easily turn into a worse version of 2022-2023 as well.Underwood’s job is to win ballgames. Brad did this to him? No loyalty at all?Ty can find better than 10-12 mins per game. Low key annoyed at Underwood for doing this to him. No loyalty at all and over recruiting a program guy. Not a bench player...a program player
A competitor at the D-1 level doesn't go to a big time program like this one to redshirt and sit a year. This wasn't part of the plan. I'm sure he's not happy with the situation he is inPretty easy to keep a good attitude when you’re getting paid handsomely to sit on the bench. Shoot, it probably takes me 4 or more years of a 9-5 to make what he is being a hype guy and a practice player.
Totally different team/fit.We were a top 10 team last season doing exactly that, but sure.
Michigan State probably will. He would fit well in that program with the pedigree of developing non scorers into all around versatile playersI could see Ty wanting to maximize his NIL, but is he really going to make a lot more money with the redshirt?

Absolutely 100%. Rodgers got Creaned. He got the Crean treatment. Or should I say the BU treatment now. This definitely feels grimey and ickyPlayers are getting paid. This is a job and they should do what is in their best interest to maximize their future. Brad has that same responsibility to the university. It all feels very scummy as it feels like creaning but fans need to rework how they evaluate these decisions now. Will continue to remember Ty fondly for his unwavering commitment while suiting up for the O&B and wish him the best in the future.
Yep, redshirt and wait to see where Tim lands for next season and then follow.Remember Tim was his guy...
Why the hell is NIL being paid here. This should be in every contract going forward. He’s gonna sit out … Collect his NIL … And leave …
This is the kind ofthat is going to start to tick off big donors …
Why should they pay for a kid to sit out and not play and have both feet out the door ???
Look who the opponent was. Reference my post when they play Alabama and then we can talkNot based on how the team looked tonight. Looked like Ty would be a 10 min per game guy to me.
So it’s sorta like having a residence in both Iowa and Indiana then?
