Huh? I’m almost certain was Mirkovic.
Wagler dribbled and dribbled and dribbled the clock down to the point where it was hot potato and we didn't even get a shot off. I'd have to go back and replay it, but if he passed to Mirkovic in the situation with the clock running down, that's also an awful decision. It was a terribly handled end of the first half and end of the OT.

Three overtime losses I guarantee will adversely affect the mentality of this team when we have a close game in the tournament
And you know this by your personal relationships with all the players and coaches I take it.

Really inexcusable loss. Don't think there's one person to blame. Staff, players, everyone just not good enough.
Kind of the story of Illinois basketball for the past 20 years summed up pretty well right here

I was talking to the people I was watching the game with when they did that. Apparently Cronin called a timeout right when we scored on the putback, but there's no way he did that literally the second it went in, right? At LEAST a half second had to have gone by, right? The put 4.9 on the clock and I was really dumbfounded by that...
The idiots controlling the clock never stopped the clock when the ball went through the hoop. The refs stopped play to fix the clock and the Cronin called the timeout. That was infuriating to me. Still not the reason we lost though.

Brad petitioning Big 10 to convert to NHL scoring system for the standings. We deserve something from all these OT losses. Boswell and AS return not the cure all for defensive issues with fast guards. Try and make Sweet 16; any round past that Illini will need to shoot well from 3.

What is the record for Illinois having a lead and giving it up? Have the Illini ever lost a game where we were up by at least 23 points?

Mirk also had a terrible TO early in the 2nd when he was called for shuffling his feet with nobody near him and he wasn't even trying to do anything.
Tough game for him, he'll be better against Michigan

Yeah Wagler was especially off from 3 compared to what we are used to. Maybe he does have tired legs after all.
Anyway six days off to recover then beat meatchicken and the rest of the regular season games we have left and we are in good shape
He's 2-11 in our last three games from 3-pt range.

So the referees and the time keepers got it wrong. This wouldn't be an Illinois board if that wasn't the case.

They were tougher than us and wanted it more.

Our last 3 losses all in OT and by a total of 6 points.

We need to get better and tougher for this last stretch.
Maybe we should change up our late game strategy. It’s just not working! 3 in a row is a trend!

This thread alone is proof that winning cures all. When we lose, we devolve into a civil war borne out of frustrations from the loss.

Not at all dissimilar to some Bears threads I'm in.

lol the story is after the 11ish mark of the first half….a middle of the pack B1G team absolutely sh!t whipped us by 24 points.

That’s it. That’s the takeaway from this game.
We mailed it in after the first 11-12min.

Maybe I’m selling UCLA short, but scUM and MSU both held that team under 60.

That we’re a very good team that lost on a buzzer beater in a road game against a tournament team?

Florida last season won the national title and lost on the road to Georgia.
My dude- now is really not the time.. It was a terrible loss- end of story- please stop.

It’s just amazing the potential for duality — if we were only able to guard 4.9 seconds with the full length of the court (which we couldn’t; no excuses), everyone would be up in arms, gloating about the win. Yes we couldn’t… and so now everything’s a catastrophe.

I UNDERSTAND that’s how sports works — you either win or you don’t, you’re either doomed or your overjoyed. But it’s just not true to think there’s something major wrong with this team.

ALL of our 3 losses in the last 3 months have been in overtime (and all to pretty good teams).

The one thing you don't want to happen on that UCLA inbound play from full court is for UCLA to pass the ball to Dent as he's running toward the basket. I don't understand why no play was drawn/made to prevent the ball from coming to Dent. Oh well, on to Michigan and hoping for the best.
