This is what it looks like when the threes don't fall for us. Once again a crucial rebound is missed in the waning seconds that could clinch a game.

This game reminded me a lot of our team last season. Lots of quick and lazy threes. However, I'm generally unconcerned because we are still a top tier team that can beat anyone at any time.

Right now Boswell looks out of place with some of his shot selection. He needs to get aboard the patience train with the rest of the team.

Excited to see how the rest of the season plays out with everyone healthy.

Let's not bring Weber into this. I know he has a lot of haters on here, but we've somehow deluded ourselves to think every Tom, Dick, and Harry could've coached that '05 team to a National Championship and that his coaching had nothing to do with it. He also has gotten 3 different schools to the Sweet 16. Tonight's loss has no bearing on that, but this team has more talent on it than '05 had. And fair or not, there are expectations that go along with that. And this was not a particularly well coached game.

It was a pretty mild dig at one of his idiosyncracies but I meant he probably would have won the game tonight because of his stall ball. It did help to have ice cold closers like Luther, Dee and Deron that made stall ball work but we have them this year too.

They did to us what we do to people. They match up hunted and had the playmakers to get the job done. When Wagler went down, the momentum did shift.
Everything they got was at the rim or wide open corner 3. Sound familiar, although we get 3's from all over.
We lost, move on. We might lose on Friday too. This team is so good. I'm not worried.

I am really impressed that Wagler knocked down both of those free throws at the end of regulation.

I wish Brad would have used a timeout or two during that big run UCLA had in the second part of the first half.

I'd rather lose this game than a Sweet 16 game the same way. I hope I can copy and paste this post and share it with everyone in late March or even early April.

Hopefully one of these OT games will break the other way.

I-L-L ... (that's the start of a chant...and yes, kinda how I feel right now)

4 1/2 hours to puck drop...Go USA!

can someone tell me if the elbow to the back of Mirks head could have been considered a flagrant 2 and an ejection?

What I find online:

Flagrant 1 is "unnecessary" contact, while a Flagrant 2 is "unnecessary and excessive" (brutal/dangerous) contact, resulting in an automatic player ejection.

Regardless of us losing, I’m interested in opinions on this.

At the risk of sounding like a !!!!!, yes, an f2 was applicable. Mirk was terrible regardless, we couldn't stop the ball, and the KW brief scare deflated the night. We will move on and will be better. To my eye, this was the first team to give back what we give. The old adage, pressing teams hate to be pressed. Same thing.

I’m have ugly premonitions that is how a #14 seed upsets a 3 seed. Every possession matters, and lesser teams can go on ridiculous hot streaks.
There is so much to love about this team that this would be an awful way to end a great season.

I"ve heard that Mick Cronin was crying about how easy that last play was. He's going to complain to the B1G.

Jesus Christ! It's a west coast game, so I don't think this has reached the fervor pitch. Welcome all new and seldom seen user names. Kindly F off with the hot takes.

" The 23-point comeback also was the largest to defeat a top-10 opponent in AP poll history, according to ESPN Research." Pathetic Coaches and players. You now own another record.

Sweet 16 maybe Elite 8 but not much more. Unless we run into 2 quick guards then an even sooner exit. Anything is possible and I will never quit cheering and losing my voice,, but this seems all to familiar

Piss poor defense again! 2nd half shooting hitting the front of the rim constantly [tired legs] 1 more made free throw in regulation and the game is won. This team peaked too soon. They can't beat Michigan. They probably will miss out on triple bye in big tourney. I look for them to get bounced early in NCAA.

Dent was spectacular, but I think the problematic matchup for this defense continues to be bigs who can space the floor and shoot. UCLA didn't put one guy on the floor tonight that wasn't a threat from 3. Same for Wisconsin.
Well I think they did statistically but he also made a couple

UCLA is a much, much better team at home for some reason
Well it isn't

Anyone else think its crazy with our size in a close game we dont go inside more? 42 of our 69 shots were from 3. Thats almost 2/3 of our shots. Thats crazy.

I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach when Andre fumbled the ball on the baseline and a ucla player saved it as he was falling out of bounds......we had the lead and keeping that possession would have been huge............

the foul called on Z was as horrible a call as we have had all year considering no contact at all and where it was in the game..........

Flagrant foul calls in BB and targeting calls in FB are maddening to me.......bila-baby swung his elbow full force in an excessive manner trying to injure Mirk.......case closed , flagrant 2 , go take a shower bila-baby...............refs missed that one early.............JMHO.............

The first 10 min looked like a final 4 team. The last 10 min of the first half they couldn't have beaten Lewis College. How does that happen to a good team. The last 10 min of the first half reminded me of the elite 8 game against UConn.

Maybe on the next 4.9 seconds full court inbounds play, put someone on the inbounding player and 4 guys in a zone around the defensive key to stop straight drives to the basket and make your opponent not be able to get a free trip to the rim. What the team is currently doing is not working.

I would have put two guys on Dent and denied him the ball because he’s the only guy they had that could go coast to coast.

Lost the exact same way last year to Tenn. Gotts learn

I too think you have to give credit to UCLA and their coaching staff. They could have easily folded their tents and gone home in the first half. I know a lot of people do not like Cronin's abrasive style, but he can coach some hoops.

100%.

This game was more a credit to them. They were blown at by Michigan, Michigan State, and down 33-10 only 10 minutes into the game. Give all the credit to them for digging out of a hole vs a red hot Illini team.

This game for me doesn’t change my opinion on Illinois. If anything maybe we get some regression to the mean on losing close games in the NCAA tourney.
