I know we are all upset, but think about the positives. We made a Final Four! We experienced the best Freshman in our program's history. Mirk is going to be VERY good next year. I'll use both of these GIF's for the final time this season. Thank you so much 2025-2026 Illini!
Great season. Sad to end it like this but you have to make threes when that is your offense. We were clearly the worst of the 4 teams left and that's not debatable.
This one is gonna hurt. Uconn was so beatable, played extremely well on defense, awful offensive gameplan. Zero ball movement, didn't get Mirk involved, Wagler too much ballhogging
So close... and yet so far. Well, it’s been fun. That we can say.
It’s not fun slogging uphill from behind all game. In fairness all you can do in the end is just tip your hat to your opponent for being better on this one day. And also tip your hat to the Illini who did not play their best but who did not quit and they made a game of it.
In front of a raucous mostly Illini Indianapolis crowd – also known this day as Champaign East and filled to the rafters in Orange glow – the Fighting Illini did what Illini Nation has so craved for the past 21 years and had their chance at getting back in to the National Championship Final. Sadly, it was not to be.
Several of the Illini did not have their best game. Couldn’t have picked a worse time for that to happen. This was a winnable game. But you have to do it on the floor. Man against man. In front of the World. No excuses.
U Conn – who needed a miracle shot to get into this Illini game – did not need a miracle this time. Just poise.
U Conn was an astounding 12 wins and 1 loss in Final Four competition coming into this game. And they are a perfect 6 wins and no losses in the Championship Game. That’s what the Illini were up against.
Thank you to the men in Orange and Blue for a fun and memorable season.
Children have been born... loved ones have passed... and few things seem the same as they were in 2005 — EXCEPT for our hopes and dreams for this Illini program. This one loss doesn’t change that. The Game goes on. The Dream is ahead.
And love and good wishes to all Illini Nation all over the World.
This game was lost in the final 5 minutes of the first half. Just dumb basketball let them off the hook when they were on the ropes. Dumb threes and didn't get the ball to the rim. Another lost opportunity.
Great season and happy for a final 4. Hopefully the staff figures out a way to go to an alternative gameplan when threes aren't falling. That was a common theme in all of our losses this season.
Simply didn't have dynamic enough athletes to do it this year. Still not taking away from this team. It was a pretty good year. Let's do it again next year.
