Yes … More 3s when you’re shooting 20% isn’t a good shot …

Honestly any shot not taken by Kylan in the 2H was a bad shot … Guys couldn’t make layups …
Well, 13/31 doesn't exactly do much for me either. 32.8% from 2 vs 20% from 3.....I don't think that was a magical elixir to fix what ailed us.

Agreed with the layups. Let's call it was it is....they plays were out there to be made. We just didn't make them and it's frustrating.

I don’t know, didn’t love the outcome. Outrebounded, 21% from 3, 31% from field, and AS was a real no show. Yet, we still fought back and made it a game until that ridiculous 4 point play. I can see a team here that can gel and make a deep run. Some tough lessons need to be learned along the way though.

I would like to see Brandon Lee get more minutes. I think we have something long term there.

Tough games for Wagler and Mirkovic. They will both likely not be one and dones, which will be good for us.
I'm right with ya on Brandon Lee

The three-point shooting was really bad. But equally harmful was Andrej going 0-for-5 and Petro 1-6 at the rim or in the paint. You get downhill and get there, you have to convert most of them.
Tomis weak pump lay up attempt at 7'1" after a great pass even though he was fouled was also so annoying and says a lot about his mindset right now. At least Big Z went to pound dunks when set up. Big z attack the rim ala Kofi and try and break the dudes arm when you are in such a strong position after a great pass. May a little guy be scares to try and block it when your wide open. He was too weak after that great pass fir a guy his size

After all of our justified criticisms, that's a fair point.

We have 1 player on our entire roster that can play man defense. BAM. The rest are slow, lazy, not interested in playing anything more than a AAU game. I said it last week 19-12 or 18-13. Mirk is a freshman 18 years old, Keaton, and Lee also. They have room to grow. Older men on roster are a bunch of over paid bums. Expect, Kylan. Ugliest darn court I've ever seen in my lifetime. BYU close 2nd. Omg we are non athletic as it gets.

Offense comes and goes, defense travels. The defense will improve at the margins, but the lack of athleticism and abysmal lateral quickness was a roster choice that is not correctable. This should be a top 25 team all season that is great fun to watch but frustrating vs elite teams w/ superior athleticism and quickness. To beat elite teams this squad must dominate the rebounding margin and shoot 3s @ >35% clip.

Really could have used Ty in this game 😕
As much as I like Ty… he would not have helped in correcting such a poor shooting night!
Pretty simple to look at this game… as mentioned a couple times… just an average shooting night is real close or perhaps a win. Shoot 32%, 21% 3’s…. expect to lose against any big ten team!

Hurley took a calculated risk, particularly in the second half, to load up on our drivers and that we wouldn’t make enough 3s to beat them. We shot 2-16. Ball game.

Liked that we fought back and made it a game. Not sure what the defensive wrinkle was we threw and them to get back in it but it worked.

Think we will be good. First road test against a top 5 team and we competed. Sounds like Drej wasn’t 100%. Frosh are still getting used to P5 physicality and will improve. Tomi looked like he is making progress.

We get 9 days to practice. Clean some things up defensively, reintegrate Tomi as our fulcrum for 5 out offense and I think we have something,

Great job Boswell.
Good minutes from Brandon Lee.

Rest of the game was a complete dud. We’re going nowhere with an offense that settles for 3s out of our big guys.

UConn wasn’t very good today. But they ran smart offense. And we don’t. We just jack long distance slop from dudes that should be in the paint dominating.
They ran an offense with movement and multiple cutters from 5 players and multiple picks away from the ball. While Illnois runs alot of ball picks with players standing on the perimeter waiting for pentration and a dishout.

we suck in early games. Boswell was the only one ready to fight. so many missed 3s. missed opportunity

I think a lot of people are questioning how you get this level of effort for a game this big. And it does seem to be a pattern. I'd prefer a lot less pre-season hype and a lot more of a show me the money from the staff and the team. The attention to detail and intensity was just not there.

For all the talk about Pizza Hut parking lots, maybe instead we should focus on actually bringing our best when the lights are brightest. The biggest games of our season aren’t happening in the shadows outside of prying eyes; they’re on the biggest stages, and we’re getting our sh*t kicked in. Again and again in marquee matchups. We’re neither mentally nor physically ready for these types of games over multiple seasons, and it’s becoming a problem.
Can close this thread, the above says it all.

My issue with this team is the roster construction. They needed a true big to replace Morez. And they needed some athleticism. They got some good parts but most of these guys are slow and terrible defenders. And you didn't get anybody to play down low (althought Z was much better today with 4 blocks.)
Morez is not a big. Didn't you watch him vs Maryland last year he was abused without Tomi. Mirk is a better post defender vs bigs than Rez ever was.

I know these games are supposed to prepare us for the tournament but they so often turn into these sh** shows I don’t know what good this does

Is the team feeling any better about themselves? or will they handle it better next time?

If you aren’t going to prepare your team for the other teams plays and you aren’t going to have anything to go to on offense other than Kylan just go create a bucket - then why play this game? One team was prepared and one team was on Thanksgiving break. If you want to take the team on a vacation to NY, just call it that and don’t play a game, all you do is destroy the teams confidence with games like this. The Duke game last year didn’t help anything either. Just stop it unless you are going to take the game seriously from a coaching perspective
There may be a slew of “but…but…Quad 1…” responses but POTD for me.

A demoralizing loss that can have ripple effects down the line, especially when you see how AS left the game. This on top of what seems to be a very questionable effort by some players from the start is a bad sign.
