They are soft--plain and simple, and they aren't going to all-of-a-sudden become a strong, dominate team. They are who they are.

Both twins should be posting up a ton more. They have the ability to back it in and baby hook their defenders to death, but it's not happening. They're chucking stupid three pointers. Soft.

I guess Wagler did OK versus Alabama, but nothing today; I get it that he and David are Freshmen, but I am lowering my expectations for those two. They need time.

Where was Andres today? He needs to develop a three-point shot, because against athletic and top teams, his taking-it-to-the rim game will be challenged big time. So, he needs to get better at finishing at the basket against better competition.

They need a Morez-type player; I know he's the villain, but just stating facts. Where the heck is the intensity on this soft team? I'd prefer some like Morez, so unathletic BH isn't forced to play a role (big bad rebounder) that he is not a natural fit for. And since he can't hit three-pointers consistently, I see no use.

I got criticized for suggesting an overrated team last year. I predicted a R2 loss and was correct. Hate to say it: I am leaning to another R2 loss team. There is still some time, but we'll see.

Me too. We aren’t going anywhere if we do not come focus and have ball movement. We are chucking threes like we are lazy. I believe we need to go another direction. With or without Brad.

Congrats, your negativity was well-founded, feel better?
I don't want to be perpetually negative. I want to be negative today so tomorrow I can be positive. But when they either refuse or are incapable of fixing things I'm stuck being negative.

With all the joy off the court where is the fight on it? Maybe I'm used to NFL mentality where this is the point they remove the ping pong tables.

The defense got a lot better by late in the first half. Some adjustments made in the second that worked. First time we’ve made a great team truly uncomfortable on offense this year. Last year’s team would have wilted and lost by 30. This team found a way to get it close enough that it was still very much a game until perhaps the worst call a team of officials will make this season. Even the FS1 studio crew called that turd of a call out for what it was. Even Laphonso Ellis.

Now you may all resume your bashing of the team for lack of toughness from the comfort of your couches.

If you want elite results, you need an elite coach. We don’t have one.

Good is not elite
Good is not good enough.
If Illinois basketball wants to be in the top-tier, they need to start searching for a top-tier coach.

I like Brad as a person. But we need a coach that can take this team to a different level.

If you’re going to prioritize positional size and skill (shot creation and making) over athleticism, you better have good Off/Def systems to support that strategy because when you inevitably run into a team with size, skill, and higher levels of athleticism, you need to execute flawlessly and make shots. Think of some of the Team USA upsets over the years to less athletic teams that played highly disciplined and made shots. That’s our only chance against top level talent and size.

This is all on coaching. Seems like we’re throwing sh*t at the wall to see what sticks. I’ll be at the ILL-TENN next Saturday. Living in SEC country, I’d certainly appreciate not dropping to 0-3 against these guys (let alone the 2 losses to Alabama) in consecutive years.

I know fans like to complain about refs, and there were some bad calls, but Illinois was outplayed by a team that simply played a much better brand of basketball. Better offensive scheme will hard cuts for easy baskets. Better defense with better contests at the rim. Most disappointing was our lack of urgency/desire out of the gate.
We didn’t shoot well from 3, even with wide open shots. Not sure if wrong players taking shots or we’re just a poor shooting team.

If we could somehow clone KB's effort, hustle, defense, shot making, and will to win, then there would be a chance to put the Fight back in Fighting Illini. Until then, we will continue to resemble a goat stampede against competent teams. The Balkan players for the most part seemed overawed, panicky, and way out of their depth against a very athletic and well coached Huskies team.

1. If it wasn’t already clear, this is Bam’s team. That’s a good thing. Teams are better with a clear leader.
2. Mirk is an unbelievable freshman, but he’s still a freshman big. There will be frustration.
3. I don’t know who this Tomi is, but right now, we have 40 minutes of serviceable, but deeply flawed, center. Need to coach around it, not to it.
4. Ben looked surprisingly good against a superior athletic team today. That’s a first, and a very good one moving forward.

If I heard correctly:
The shot clock reset to 20 seconds on the prior shot, but it was over 20 and should not have dropped to 20. They decided to go back to THAT clock mistake, meaning the shot clock was two seconds too low for the next 20 seconds.
That, in turn, meant that when the clock went from 2 seconds to 20 seconds, on the SECOND clock error, it should have been at 4 seconds… allowing enough time for the miracle shot.

In other words, complete and total fairy tail to allow the shot to count.
I appreciate your explanation but I don’t think this is the rule. The refs are not allowed to add 2 seconds back onto the shot clock AFTER what would have been a shot clock violation.

But but but… we run an NBA style offense which consists of ball screens, iso and shooting 3’s. It attracts players!

Brad move on from this Tyler nonsense. You see what an actual offense is capable of because it beats you every year in big games and when it matters in March

Great job Boswell.
Good minutes from Brandon Lee.

Rest of the game was a complete dud. We’re going nowhere with an offense that settles for 3s out of our big guys.

UConn wasn’t very good today. But they ran smart offense. And we don’t. We just jack long distance slop from dudes that should be in the paint dominating.
I felt Big Z played well defending the rim and if he huts just a couple open looks he would've played great. A career 38% 3pt shooter and just missed. I like what Big Z did changing and blocking shots, just gotta make open looks that historically he has.

For this team, missed 3s seem to be contagious, once 1 guy misses the entire team catches it. That is between the ears. Stop aiming the ball and shoot the dam thing.

I know these games are supposed to prepare us for the tournament but they so often turn into these sh** shows I don’t know what good this does

Is the team feeling any better about themselves? or will they handle it better next time?

If you aren’t going to prepare your team for the other teams plays and you aren’t going to have anything to go to on offense other than Kylan just go create a bucket - then why play this game? One team was prepared and one team was on Thanksgiving break. If you want to take the team on a vacation to NY, just call it that and don’t play a game, all you do is destroy the teams confidence with games like this. The Duke game last year didn’t help anything either. Just stop it unless you are going to take the game seriously from a coaching perspective
