As everyone on here knows, I'm the last person who is going to defend Danny Hurley and his behavior. I also think it's reprehensible that UConn's media relations director did what he did with the reporter.

But can any of this really be considered criminal behavior? Sure, it's bad. Yes, Hurley should be suspended as he would be suspended for criticizing the officiating at a press conference (and probably more than that given the specific nature of the comments). Yes, the media relations director should be fired the moment his claim is substantiated (which, based on what we are hearing, shouldn't take long given the likely multitude of witnesses in the area). But a threat to "ruin (his) life" doesn't seem to rise to the level of criminal behavior. Now following up on that? That would be criminal behavior.

Not surprisingly, not a peep from the NY Times/The Athletic (aka UConn's mouthpiece) about any of this so far. Not even an article about the initial comments as Hurley walked down the tunnel. Also nothing from ESPN on its website.

The depths these organizations will go to in order to protect their favorites is not surprising, but it's certainly disappointing.

I mean, I don't like Hurley, but it doesn't seem like he did anything wrong here. Mullen, on the other hand, is clearly a scumbag.

private. in a hallway. 5 feet from the arena opening. with multiple reporters and arena staff present. right.

Hurley's a dbag, no surprise here. Mullen should be canned, freedom of the press and no expectation of privacy in that moment

I imagine if the Raleigh police are involved something beyond foul language took place here. Something along the lines of a physical threat or something, but that's just conjecture

When you're in a public position, you always have to act like anything you say and do can be on the front page of a newspaper and the lead story on a newscast of your choosing. Until Hurley was in his team's locker room (and maybe not even there), it's his responsibility to watch what he says.

Zero sympathy for him here.

Hurley is the sorest loser ever. Watch the dude after any loss. And watch how much he whines on the sidelines. And how he gets into it with fans constantly. And the comments he makes to referees about "do you know who I am?" He has zero self control. Hope he never sniffs another national championship.

I absolutely despise people like this! Insanely narcissistic and immature. And the ā€œheā€™s just intenseā€ and ā€œheā€™s just passionateā€ bs is reprehensible. How hard is it to just be a decent, respectable human being? Just so tired of the blind admiration of this guy.

OK, so clarificationā€¦ The incident is true, but there is no investigation. And the director of communications for UConn has put his job in jeopardy because of all this.
