First they take our confederate war memorials, now are indian war chant? Is nothing from 1867-1999 sacred? SAD! :tsk:
The fact that you try to equate these two things ... I won't even respond

This thread is like a fireworks display of posts highlighting why Illinois Football and Basketball need a prolonged period of winning.
Yep, you've got it. I heard the War Chant was the only reason we got a commitment out of Red Grange.

How will this hurt recruiting, exactly?
I'm not Native American. I want to make that clear. However what they basically banned was clapping, and music that one could consider to be thematic of Native American styles. If that's considered offensive, then sure. It's tough to support... Personally though, as a 3rd party, I am having a hard time seeing how music can be considered offensive.
It won't. No kid cares about this war chant.
How are you gonna pay for the tickets? Barter?
If "every tradition this university has" was tied to Chief Illiniwek, then we are a pretty f'ng lame university.
Keep the name "Fighting Illini" since it's a reference to veterans, keep Oskee Wow Wow (there's no Native American tie), and keep Hail to the Orange.
I don't care if we drop everything else, none of the rest gets people hype anyway.
It would be better to make a clean break than to keep dragging out the debate.
The folks decrying this decision due to political correctness seem just as fragile to me as the "snowflakes".
I want to keep my old tradition, and I don't care that other people might be offended by it. Isn't that what we're talking about here?
And before you ask "Where does it end?"....for me, I want to keep the name Fighting Illini. I know it's arguable whether there's even a factual case to warrant a change, but that's a battle I would just as soon not fight. And if it means stripping away anything that even hints at NA heritage or culture, well, that's unfortunate, but that's also a trade I am super ready to make.
Yeah, but it's a lot harder to build athletic traditions around corn and supercomputers...... The University of Illinois is about thousands of other GREAT things than the Chief.

The Singular of 'Alumni' is "Alumnus" So, " . . . . . won't see a dime from this Alumnus".Not cancelling tickets. But they for sure will never see a dime from this alumni.
