Week 0 & Week 1 Games

Yes, there was free beer at the game for a time; resulted in huge lines (no surprise) and some really awesome cup snakes including one that made it from the first level to the second level.
Game thought:
1. Nebraska will Nebraska. Still can't get out of their own way. Doubt Frost will survive the season
2. NW has very little team speed and unimaginative play calling. They just wore down the Neb d-line by running it down their throats
3. Donny Navarro is clearly WR1 for NW
4. Both teams are very beatable and will prove to be a good barometer of where we stand as a program
Wonder how many Nebby players puked after that performance.

I rarely cheer a Northwestern victory, but when I saw the final I was ecstatic that the Huskers lost.
I will be heavily chastened if Northwestern turns out to be an actual decent football program this year.
agree

as much as we all like to hate Fitz , he has his team totally ready to play more often than Harbaugh does .

As long as he’s on their sideline , they will recruit well and be competitive .

Think he left before BLJ was hired right? I think he saw TP and decided that wasn't going to be good for him and left.
Actually it looks like Lunney was hired in early January and Navarro entered portal about 2 weeks later. Given that he was again going to have a new OC and system as well as likely a new QB, probably figured if he was going to go through that might as well do it at a new school. Not like he was seeing all kinds of action (at least stat-wise), and isn’t he from the Chicago area anyway? I thought he did a decent job here and wish him success — except against the Illini, of course.

I like Navarro and he had a good game, but Washington, who had twice as many targets and receptions, and 3 times the receiving yards as Navarro, might disagree with you anointing Navarro the clear WR1 — even with Navarro having only score between the two of them.

Hearing Frost speak a a news conference reminds me of listening to Tim Beckman. Poor ability to communicate, inspire any confidence, and deflecting. He is inarticulate at a news conference for sure. Just an outside observation, but he sounds terrible. Maybe he is great on the practice field. What he did at the UCF in 2017 or whatever was incredible.

And really the worst thing about the failed onside kick was his saying to his team, “I don’t believe you can win this unless we do something desperate to put a stake in their hearts.” I think he was saying we don’t have the ability to see this through without this. He may have been right, but Nebby took the game and a two score lead back in the 3rd and said here, have the momentum. Not a Nebraska fan, but feel for their fans.

Nah, not one iota of pity for them . . . .I can recall the days oh Nebraska and Oklahoma terrorizing the Big 12 back when Osborne & Switzer raped, pillages, and plundered their way through the conference, and running roughshod over weaker opponents and running up the scores to astronomical heights. Not one tear will I shed for them.

That last game was against undefeated Florida for a national title...one of those 4 games is not like the others.

Don't forget the 59-14 they put on us in 1986 in Champaign after beating us 52-25 at their place the year before. Including those two they have won 8 of the last 11 against us. It's time for us to dominate them for a few decades along with many others.

For some reason this reminded me of when I was living in Ames, IA (then wife was in grad school there) and Iowa state played Oklahoma and lost, I think, 24-10 and the big headline, that is, front page main headline in bold letters, in the Des Moines Register was something along the line that ISU lost by ONLY 14 points. It was big news that they had lost by so few points. Man, they were starved for any halfway good news about the ISU team

Ah, Lawrence Phillips types combined with a liberal use of steroids. It was indeed a golden age for Nebraska and Oklahoma.

To date myself , one the all time best collegiate players I have ever seen is Johnny Rodgers from huskerville........That dude was slippery and could accelerate at a moments notice .....punt returns were electric and on offense they tried to get him out in the open territory.......
He was fun to watch and back then the Illini never played against corn cobbers......JMHO

I was also a big fan of I. M. Hipp from the late ‘70’s - while not the equal of Rodgers, he was one of the all-time greatest walkons and is definitely on the all-name team

Billy Sims at Oklahoma was another of those slippery exciting dudes from yesteryear.......

The greatest player I have ever seen strictly from an exciting electric point of view will always be Gale Sayers..........Plenty of others in that discussion , but Sayers did things that you would think would be nearly impossible for a human being to do , but he had moves on top of moves ....that 6 TD game he had where , I think , he scored in every way possible except throw a TD was remarkable .....

Once again , JMHO..............

The 6 TD game was played on wet field. Man could he run. The Bears back then had some very good running backs. Ronnie Bill, JC Caroline, John Arnett, and one of my favorite Willie Galimore. Chase Brown I believed passed Caroline.

Agree. Sayers was phenomenal. IMO, the NFL of yesteryear was much more entertaining when backs could run around and through defenses for long gains. The 11 defensive automatons playing today make a 10 yard gain something to marvel at. Don't watch much anymore.
