Well, we can only call this a rousing success..
As an Illinois fan I couldn't care less about the championship implications. I am happy to just watch some football.Well, we can only call this a rousing success..
I realize that would be very poor sportsmanship but I have to admit part of me would LMAO.So do we think Michigan will cancel their game against OSU to spite them?
If they change the rules for Ohio St, it will be tough for me to keep watching football. Schools like Ohio St already have enough built-in advantages, they don't need to have rules changed tooWe knew this was coming.
From a business decision, this makes sense. Why not have a possible championship caliber team represent your conference?
From a transparency/fairness viewpoint, this shows that being good allows you to usurp the rules/guidelines. It’s the equivalent of talented players being held to a different standard (read less strict) because they win games for you.
This mirrors the NCAA but, honestly, I’m not surprised. The B1G is simply a mini-NCAA.
I wonder how the other schools will respond or if they will truly care.
Well, it’s better for the conference at large, including us, to have Ohio State competing down the stretch of this season. If they change the rules for Ohio St, it will be tough for me to keep watching football. OSU to be without 17 scholarship players including 6 starters today. With the additional time since Illini game they can be more sure that those players represent the total infected players. They didn’t have that “certainly” prior to the Illini game, especially with some new players testing positive the day/night before the game. I’m glad the Illini game was cancelled. It was the smart and safest thing to do. I’d much rather have a relatively healthy team for Iowa then be down players because of Covid transmitted by OSU players last week.Clearly Ohio State is motivated to play both of their remaining scheduled games. But have they provided any explanation/rationale on how/why if they couldn't field a team to play at Illinois last week, they can this week at MSU? Any and all players/staff/support personnel who would have been ineligible for the Illinois game (either due to being Covid positive, or contact tracing) are also ineligible for this week's game against MSU. Oh wait, it isn't 9 P.M. Friday yet, so OSU could still cancel.
Not sure about the certainty thing. You either test positive or you don't and you either were in contact with someone who tested positive or you weren't.OSU to be without 17 scholarship players including 6 starters today. Yes and no. Peters, for instance, tested negative twice on the nasal swab test required by the conference. He tested positive on the spit test required by the university. Not sure about the certainty thing. Seems like they should have had all the info last week to make a determination. If new players tested positive the day/night before the game, why did they not just pull all of those players and those in contact and carry on?
If what they are saying is we don't trust the testing, then that's going to be a problem for every game. And from what the AD said last week re: the Columbus area being high in positives - did that change in one week? I traveled thru Ohio this week - and it was very hard to find a county to stop in overnight that was not red. This still smells a tad.
No thanks. Everyone should play by the same rules
