I would’ve liked our chances better had that game been a home, but we got smoked. We’re fortunate the score was as close as it was:

had the ball with a chance to tie with 5 minutes left. that goal-line stand was pure luck on their part and horrible officiating.

sure they gave us a chance, and our run d was absolutely atrocious, but they got lucky too.

not to mention all the pre-snap penalties...
One play. The bad snap with the ball on the PSU 2 yard line under 2 minutes before the half. That turned the whole game.
Understandably.

Having a moment like that against a top 5 team... ya knew it.

We maxed out on the win probability chart at 52.1% against Minnesota and 42.4% against PSU.

Kansas was at 80.1%, Nebraska was at 83.8%, Rutgers was at 93.7%, and Purdue was at 97.1%

Very amusing that anyone would suggest letting loose the Butterfly Effect on our season. It is a capital M Miracle we are 8-3.

What win probability chart? When does it calculate these probabilities?

The ESPN gamecasts have them.
Thanks! I had a follow up question, which is why I asked, but I just reread your original post and see what you mean now.

You’re saying that the team we played against (Kansas, Nebraska, etc) has those percentages at their maximum point during the game. Wow, that’s actually crazy. I still wouldn’t call this season a “miracle“ but yeah, there’s definitely some luck that has fallen on the Illini this year.

Feels good!

Some measure of luck. Some measure of coaching.

Assign percentages as you choose.
