Week 4 Games

That was always one the more amusing fan theories on here as it just didn't align with reality. I mean you'd think Izzo would want to keep around coaches around who he had a great winning percentage against instead of a .500 record (better than most coaches against him). I also recall it going so far that fans were saying Izzo was telling his team to purposely lose to us so we would keep Weber. Just funny stuff. Fans really hated Weber those final years...
Bruce was excellent head to head vs. MSU, agree and enjoyed all those wins, even the 41-38 game or whatever it was. If only Bruce wasn't so lousy against Penn State and Wisconsin and almost everyone else ..... but I do think Izzo realized the ceiling with Bruce as a coach at Illinois was a lot lower than it was with Self, of would be with any coach that could combine good recruiting and good coaching, and it was in Izzo's interest for Bruce to stay at Illinois and produce .500ish Big Ten teams.

At least that's the way I looked at it. I could have been wrong. I never thought anything like Izzo was telling his players to lose, can't imagine as competitive he is ever doing that.

Freeman tried to defend it in the postgame presser saying he didn't want to give Ohio State a free play by drawing a penalty for having another defender run onto the field late.
For 2 plays? I actually respect a coach more when they admit to screwing up and promise to do better (which is a rarity). I don't care either. ND lost!
