EIU lost yesterday to UT Martin 28-27 in overtime in EIU's homecoming game. The game was a back and forth game with EIU QB Pierce Holley having his best game as a Panther thus far, throwing for 359 yards with 4 TDs and an interception. Each team had a possession in OT with UT Martin scoring on theirs and getting the extra point. EIU scored a touchdown as well and decided to go for two. The Panthers went with a trick play where they brought in their backup QB as a receiver, had him go in motion, the starting QB tosses it to him, and then the backup does a pass back to the starter on the far side of the field from where the backup is running. It ended up the play didn't work like they thought so the backup had to toss it into the end zone where it was broken up by a UT Martin defender.
With the loss, the Panthers fall to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the Big South/OVC Alliance. EIU returns to action Saturday at Southeast Missouri State. Kick-off is set for 2:00 PM and the game will air on ESPN+.
