I thought Indiana was a one trick pony last year. Boy, was I wrong. Would like to read a synopsis by experts/insiders on this board. Just how did this happen?
Week 7 Games

Georgia is no slouch. Absorbed Auburn's best punches in Round 1, then came out fightin' and took care of business.
Illini in Italy

By the same logic people will use that allows ND to be the top of the two loss teams, Illinois should be considered the second best 2-loss team. ND’ two losses come to the current #2 and #5 our two have been to the current #1 and #7. And after this week, it may be #1 and #3.
On top of that, we have a win over another team that was ranked (probably will be again this week) that just beat another ranked team. And possibly will have another win over a team that will likely start getting votes soon.
Illinois’ “win resume” is way better than ND’s, and both ND and Illinois have the same number of losses, and to the same caliber type of teams.
To be completely honest, wherever ND is ranked, Illinois ought to be ranked right in front of them. But we all know that won’t happen. Instead, somehow well inexplicably be ranked behind ND, USC, probably Michigan still, etc etc…
Ah wives. Has been a voice of reason on those occasions when I have use convoluted logic to justify a decision.

Cam aomeone explain to me why we should believe Oregon is a top tier team worthy of a CFP spot? They have no impressive win at this point. Everyone got on the bandwagon with them because of the win at Happy Valley. They beat Oregon State, OK State and NW. Those teams are collectively 8-10.
You can say this about 90% of teams right now. We are still getting data points on all teams.
IMO the PSU win was still very impressive, but might not look good on the resume at the end of the year. I think PSU is a talented team that imploded and might have some locker room issues now.
I wonder if Penn State alums are still as notoriously snobby as I recall them being. Every time they embarrass themselves, I think about the one alum I knew who used to talk down about UIUC being inferior.

Indiana certainly has some cfp cushion now. They could absorb a bad loss and probably 2 losses and still get in. They still have to go to Penn state and PSU could circle the wagons and put up a fight. Tho if I had to guess IU is gonna go undefeated til cfp.
It IS a fair question. Honestly, a lot of "this team is worthy of a CFP spot" hype is based on last year's CFP hype. It's been that way for years; even pre-CFP. Things will start to sort themselves out after conferences have played about half their games (so like week 9 or 10). I do think Oregon will be CFP worthy when all the chips fall at the end of the season.

CBS postgame anchor asked him that yesterday. He said that success last year enabled them to upgrade talent. Plus, what he didn’t add, he’s a six-sigma coaching CEO. His teams are ravenous at all times.
I believe this was part of a throwback uniform for their homecoming game vs Iowa.

The Wisconsin/Iowa game yesterday reminded me of when we were in the midst of losing 15 in a row or whatever it was to Wisconsin in basketball. I don’t remember the specifics, but there was a game where we hit some shots and got out to an early lead, but then Wisconsin just systemed us with their swing offense and won easily. And Robert wrote an article about how they just kept bringing in bigs who could shoot, big guards etc and they were just a machine, whereas we didn’t have any foundation to build on at that time.
Say what you will about Iowa, and there is likely a ceiling on that program, but they system about as well as anyone in CFB right now. And if you are a team without any foundation or identity, playing a system team can feel like running into a buzz saw.
Wisconsin had their system for 30 years but it looks like it’s gone and ain’t coming back. They’re going to have to get lucky and hire the right coach, but as we’ve seen with our program and Nebraska and others, it’s really hard to build a college football program with long term sustained success.
Say what you will about Iowa, and there is likely a ceiling on that program, but they system about as well as anyone in CFB right now. And if you are a team without any foundation or identity, playing a system team can feel like running into a buzz saw.

Their uniforms last evening were throwbacks. This is what they wore in the '80s. Coincidentally. they also played football last evening the way they played in the '80s for the most part.
